Mercedes EQSWhy doesn't the article mention which model/make it was? The media used to always use these opportunities to attack Tesla in particular.
I bought a 2026 bZ earlier this month for this exact reason. I have solar/battery with excess daily production, so it made much more sense to replace my ICE daily driver with an EV. No more gas stations for the daily commute ever againPersonally I like the new Toyota bZ with pricing lower than Rav4 and great financing options.
But, the Rav4 LE AWD model at couple thousand dollars more has acceptable MPG (hybrid), more cargo room/interior space and would likely fare better in emergency situations if you need to bug out.
On the other hand, if you have solar, battery and charging setup at home, EV or plug in hybrid would benefit from bug in scenarios where local gas stations run dry. Plus the battery system can also power your home. For shortet duration outages, your EV's V2H can keep the lights on.

So you are replacing 10 minutes at the gas station with 10 minutes at the charging station?Looks like "refueling" is starting to level:

These Chinese EVs can flash charge to 70% in 5 minutes, get to 97% charge in 9 minutes (12 if cold).
So while US brand EVs are cutting back... China is going to keep pushing technology.
Every one of those companies is bleeding cash..the only thing that keeps them afloat is government support and subsidies. China itself is in deep economic trouble that they are haveing more and more difficulty covering up. They are very near collapse and Xi knows it. Why do you think they are so quiet about all that’s going on in Iran?…not a peep…Looks like "refueling" is starting to level:
