IR's book now available on Amazon?

Maybe I am late to the party, but looks like that link on the blog page actually works now. Although there is no picture of the book on the Amazon website.

Delivery estimate: October 22, 2008

I placed my order. Who else has?

Just one question for IR. How do they decide whether to go paperback or hardcover?

When you are self-published I'm sure it's just a matter of cost. But as for a publishing house, I've been told all first edition books are hard cover, then on subsequent runs they will sometimes switch to paperback.

Actually, you posted only 21 minutes after I finished making that change to the site. :coolsmirk:

So when and where is the book release party?</blockquote>

We will have a party/book signing on November 12 at JT Schmids at the District. I will make a public announcement in the weekend post.

Cost is the main reason. I wanted to make the book as inexpensive as possible. A hardcover would have cost $10 more per book to produce. I will probably make a hardcover available next year. If you publish both simultaneously, your sales rank on Amazon will suffer as you split your sales between the two editions.

Surprisingly enough, the cost of self-publication is not much greater than what regular publishers pay. I could lower the book cost by a buck or two if I ran 10,000 copies, but the risk isn't worth the reward. Quite honestly, I don't know how publishers make any money. The margins on books are not that high, and selling more than 10,000 copies is pretty rare.

That?s an interesting choice.

Where will you do the book signing in the bar area?

I was thinking Borders, but at least now we can order drinks and appetizers.

IR,

First of all, congrats! This is a book that needed to be written. Second, can local bookstores order copies (either from the publisher or a distributor)?

If so, I think IHB'ers need to flood local stores with requests and get them to display the book prominently. Some book signings in bookstores would also be in order. I'm looking forward to seeing you on TV, as part of the book tour...

I am finalizing the paperwork with a distributor. It will take a couple more weeks before I can supply bookstores. I like the idea of hitting them with requests...

For those who haven't started your Christmas shopping yet (or even if you have) - this book will also make a great stocking-stuffer. :)

I want to wrap the book up and give it to everyone who told me and my husband that we were idiots for not buying a house in 2004 (including all the realtors.)

Only one person out of that bunch acknowledged that we made the right decision not to buy.

We will have one of their dining rooms to ourselves. It is a much more social atmosphere, and if someone is being disruptive, we can ask them to leave.

Great, we will make requests in an organized fashion so that each store gets many requests. I'd like to see your book displayed in every Barnes & Noble, and Borders in the OC. I think we have enough IHB'ers to make that happen.

I don't think that's who he's got in mind.

This very true. In fact, if anyone is being disruptive, we will just tell Ipo that they said they would mess with his mailbox. Hopefully he won't go too 909 on them, but he alone should make for effective crowd control.

[quote author="KINetics" date=1224302209]Any chance of making it available in Amazon's Kindle format for sell as well?</blockquote>

I have looked into it, but they don't pay very well, and when I uploaded the file, it was going to require extensive reformatting. Since I already have the ebook available, I doubt I will go through the effort to create the kindle book.

The cover image is now up.
