Have you ever considered moving to another state?

Want cheaper living?  Move to the Inland Empire.  Use your weekends to vacation in Orange County.

Save you a lot of time flying and traveling.

Moving to another state is always interesting.  I love looking at real estate in other parts of the country.  However, I love the weather here too much as well as the proximity to things that I enjoy.

I was just in Vancouver, BC and I really liked it there as well.  However, I hear the winters are full of rain and though it stays light til like 10pm during summer, the winter brings a lot of rain and it gets dark early.

I hear great things about Portland and Seattle.

I don't know about Inland Empire

Inland Empire: Like Texas With Income Tax

That's kind of insulting to Texas.  ;)

Inland Empire (Corona) compared to Dallas, TX

Winners
Distance to Ocean: Inland Empire
Distance to Disney Theme Park: Inland Empire
Distance to Skiing/Snowboarding: Inland Empire
December Avg High: Inland Empire (68 vs 58 in Dallas)
July Avg High: Inland Empire (92 vs 96 in Dallas)
State Taxes:  Dallas
State Benefits to Taxpayers: Inland Empire
Unemployment rate: Dallas (5.7% vs 6.1% in Corona)
Household income: Corona ($79K/yr vs $57k/yr in Dallas)

So if you have a job you actually make more in Corona than Dallas even after you pay your state income taxes. If you bought a home decades ago you come out way ahead thanks to Prop 13.

The states without sales tax, like Oregon, are at an automatic advantage.

I think the fundamental question is one of tradeoffs and what you value most. If you're an indoors-type person, there are plenty of other cities and states calling your name.

The map is a little skewed in that it should account for income levels.

speaking income levels, you have to consider FCBs.

Where does one go if they like the outdoors, but hate bike riding, but here for the schools, but don't want to spend more than $50k to upgrade new construction?
South County?

Inland Empire AKA Texas West?
