The biggest problem with the flat gas tax is it is going to hurt the people who cannot afford it the most -- the working poor.
If you recall the income tax hike in 2009 also got defeated (ballot prop) - that John and ken AM talk radio show mentioned in the article was a key driver of opposition back then and also is now. My guess is they will succeed. This gas tax likely gets defeated.
I am surprised they are not getting any pressure from national dems on this. This seems like the surest way to energize the opposition and turn what was looking like a wave election in CA into more competitive.
