Appliances - Help Needed!

Hi TIers,

Happy New Year's eve! I need help picking out a washer, dryer, and fridge.

I went to Pacific Sales yesterday and put a deposit down to lock in the sale prices that ends today. I will also go to Home Depot later today and see if they have anything that PS doesnt and also to compare prices. PS will price match.

Now can anyone recommend a counterdepth french door fridge? My measurements are the following:

Height: 72 inches (w/ no flooring installed)
Width: 36 inches
Depth: 25.25 hits the end of inside cabinet and 27.75 hits the slight outward groove.

I went in wanting a french door but ended up picking a side by side Jen-Air based on the sales guy's advice.

Now I realize that it might not fit since I haven't installed flooring and this fridge hits 72 inches. Also after more research I think I want to go back to the french door style. Please suggest which french door fridge you would recommend.

Washer and Dryer, I went in wanting a front loading one but the sales guy talked me into a top loading washer and matching dryer.

Reviews from people say it doesn't clean as well and pills clothes more than a front loading machine.

After doing more research I think i want to go back to front loading. These were the 2013 top rated washer and dryer. Can anyone confirm or chime in?

Is it worth getting the Kenmore Elite at Sears or just settle for the LG version of it? PS only carries the LG version as Kenmore is exclusive to Sears.

Thanks everyone for your help. Trying to lock in pricing now vs waiting until President's day weekend. What do you think?

Do you have a price range you're looking at?

I would recommend Howard's as a retailer...the one in Irvine is quite good.  Home Depot/Lowe may also be good considering they have coupons and can be pretty competitive depending on sale.

As for recommendations, can't really help you with the fridge because I don't like counter-depth fridges.  Way too small.

As for washer/dryers, we went with the largest Samsungs they had a few months back.  With rebates and discounts, it was not super expensive.

It also depends on if you want a frontloader or top loader.

No price range really. Just want to see what is considered top and work my way down from there. Thanks for the Howard's rec! Looking for a frontloading washer and dryer.

I would definitely choose a front load over a top load.

As a bonus, if you have small laundry room, the front load washer gives you extra "counter" space.

Any specific machine? So hard to research online as most reviews are negative on any machine.

We currently have a Maytag since they were one of the first that did front loaders.

But it has that issue of the front gasket collecting moisture and mold.

From what I've read and based on friends' recommendations, Samsung or LG are the best right now... but I think they are all the same so I would buy based on capacity, features and price.

I actually don't prefer the pedestals.

Most laundry rooms have upper cabinets for storage and the additional height also makes it harder to use the tops of the machines as counter/basket parking/folding area/ironing area.

Those pedestals are the most expensive storage you'll ever purchase, whoever thought of them was an evil genius.

You can usually get a big discount on them if you ask.  I like them because they raise the washer/dryers off the ground so you can put a laundry basket underneath the door and just transfer the clothes in them.

we decided to get the automatic dispenser to function as the washer pedestal ... DON'T .. the tubes where the laundry/softener goes keeps on getting clogged and we have to keep on calling service to fix/unclog it until our Lowes extended warranty was up.  We were probably washing our clothes for several months without laundry soap because we didn't know the automatic dispenser is not functioning anymore :(

On the washer/dryer we have, the doors are already high enough on the machine to fit the basket underneath.

On models we have looked at, that still seems to be the case.

Chairman - i have a kenmore elite, this one, or very similar. works great. very happy with it

our dryer is also kenmore elite

We have the pedestal and the basket slides just under the door.

Which ones do you have? I will stay away from those.

Here is what we have now (or similar to):

The LG and Samsung we are looking at seem to have doors high enough without the pedastals.

That's why I never understood pedestals.  Just make the dryer/washer higher!  Unless you're a family of hobbits.

Like making a product purposely defective to force people to upgrade to make it more practical.

5.2 cubic feet is for a family of 5? Is the 4 good enough?
