Excellent points that have already mentioned.  My take is that it depends on what your plans are with the home.  If you plan to sell fairly quick, say 1-3ish years, then sure, an early phase home may get you a higher price.  However fast forward several more years, and that point, it's all about...

Sort of funny how the writer makes it a point to call out the year of the car(s) involved.  It almost reads like a used car ad.

Don't know if this was the case here, but those that have had landscaping done, the full payment was not due all up front was it? I asked that our landscaper accept multple payments vs. one up front payment, to "somewhat" prevent something like this from happening, at least I wouldn't be out...

I would check for possible water damage behind any walls or above the ceilings.  You said they are not directly above you; so trace back from the leak in your kitchen to where the AC unit is installed (or the best that you can).  Popping open can lights if you have them to look in the ceilings...
