Your Dream House

I loved seeing Mr & Mrs IR's dream home on the Valentine's Day Blog and it made me wonder how many of us have "dream" homes that we watch on the MLS and fantasize about someday living in them.

I'll share mine. http://www.4352wendoverct.com/

It's a modest home by So Cal pricing standards but still out of our reach. Yet I can't keep myself from checking up on it regularly. It's got a bedroom for each of my kids, a lap pool for Mr SacRenter to swim in, it's walking distance to his job, and walking distance to a quaint village. It's big enough to entertain but small enough that I could actually keep it clean without needing help.

It hasn't been on the MLS long and I'm trying to emotionally prepare myself for the day it gets sold. But for now I try to limit myself to checking on it via the internet and once in a great, great while...usually when I'm feeling particularly blue...I'll allow myself to drive slowly past it and gaze longingly!

What's your dream home?

For me, it's not just the property, but the fact that I'll be that much closer to world domination when I occupy it...

Those are too big for me. How would you even find the rest of the family for dinner without everyone carrying a walkie talkie or something?

This is a nice house IMHO - imagine, an Irvine house with an actual backyard...

Anon - that backs onto Portola. Who would want to pay 2.1M for that house? What happened to location, location, location?

Mrs SacR--really cute house. How much would it have to come down for you to afford it?

Everybody else--very spectacular. But I don't think I would really want to live in them,

Especially the white one. I understand you can't sell it.

Anywhere near good fishing waters is fine with me. I think most locations are covered for satellite broadband now. Also, preferably in a location that's not a prime target for terrorist attack or nuclear strike/counter-strike (like Washington DC).

Governments may come and go and civilizations rise and fall. But I intend to survive with my fishing rod, muzzle loading rifle, and mountain house #10 cans:

LawyerLiz - with 1 year and a 30% reduction we'd be good to go on my dream house. In this market there is a chance it will still be there in a year and at a 30% reduction even! Sacramento has been hit hard and yet people seem slow to drop their prices. A few houses do fly off the market quickly and that seems to give others hope despite the fact that there are MANY nice homes in my target area that have languished on the MLS for 100+ days and are playing the game of chasing the market with 1-2% reductions every few months. Here's hoping the owners of my dream home make that mistake!!!!

I'm having fun seeing everyone's dream homes - the unrealistic ones (Pennsylvania Avenue!!?!?!) as well as the achievable ones. Hopefully in a few more years we'll have a thread titled: Just Closed on My Dream Home!

SacRenter, you'll have to wait until November 2012 for me to close on my dream home, and January 2013 for me to move in.

I'll be simple, and say that something like these will be my home --- but not a "dream" home, as I fully expect these to be a reality for about $675k in February 2009:

http://www.redfin.com/stingray/do/printable-listing?listing-id=631384

And if those houses are not in the mid-high 6's in early 2009, then something like this will be my dream home for another 12 months:

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/apa/575333414.html

My fishtank loving son sez the coral in the huge fishtank is fake. He also says, that with real coral, you would have to hire somebody almost full time to take care of it. I guess if you can afford the house, you can afford the slaves. . . He loved the rest of the house.

SacRenter: I hear Sacramento is dropping like a bomb, so maybe you'll get your dream! It is, at least, a realistic one.

CK - I especially loved the second house. The pictures really highlight the spaciousness and light of the home. I always look at the kitchen first and imagine myself cooking while overseeing kids doing homework and bugging each other mercilessly. I could totally see myself in the Calavera home!

Trooper - I keep clicking on your listing but it doesn't take me anywhere. Can you repost a link...I'm dying to see what your dream looks like!

Yep, Sac --- we really like that one on Calavera in Westpark as well. We have not really been into Westpark (despite the fact we have lived in WP for 3 years), but this one really struck a chord with us. It's just a hop away from our place, and we have been by it several times in the last week. It's updated exactly as I would do a house on my own dime, and is almost directly across the street from a great K-8 school.

Oh how I wish these stupid prices would fall faster.....That one would be our 20 year home, and if it would just get below $300 sq ft I could make the case in my own head....

Oh, oh, EVERYONE!!!! My dream house dropped their price!!!! Yep...after 58 days on the market they've decided to come down from $509,000 to $506,500. Which means that they dropped their price an amazing...0.49% Hallelujah!!!!

We're getting closer! If the next price reduction breaks the 1% mark I swear I'm jumping in with an offer...
