So I guess KCAL 9 is now reporting an ongoing hostage situation near W. Yale Lp and Blue Lake Dr in Woodbridge. Early news accounts say it started as a home invasion gone bad and now there are hostages in the home. Irvine SWAT is at the scene now. First the Trabucco Shopping Center shooting and now this...looks we can can kiss our 'Safest City' title for 2009 good bye.

People are getting desperate, desperate people do desperate things. Irvine, in an effort to promote itself as a hometown for the upper class, also made itself a big fat target for people with more need than fear. To misquote Tanta, we're all Santa Ana now.

Well a recently posted article by the OC Register says a gunman is holding 3 people hostage in a home near Rainstar & Blue Lake in Woodbridge. Says a neighbor called 911 after speaking to a family member of the hostages (so I guess one of them escaped and notified a neighbor). Very scary stuff it turns out to be a true home invasion.

RVINE, Calif. (CNS) -- Two people were reportedly shot Saturday inside an Irvine home where a gunman was holding at least three people hostage.

Gunfire broke out inside the residence shortly after 2 a.m., leaving two people wounded, according to Focal Point camera crew and police scanner reports.

One victim, a male, was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, Focal Point reported. The second victim, a female, received a wound to the arm, and was also transported to a hospital, the camera crew added.

The status of the hostage-taker and the third captive was unknown at this time.

An Irvine police spokesperson was not immediately available to confirm the reports.

Police were called to the lakefront residence near Rainstar and Blue Lake about 9 p.m. Friday after receiving reports that an armed hostage-taker was holding three people hostage inside, Irvine police Lt. John Hare said.

He was believed to be a friend or associate of the captives, all of whom are family members, he said, adding that police did not think the suspect was related to the hostages.

Shortly after officers arrived, several nearby residences were evacuated, as police negotiators established contact with the alleged kidnapper, Hare said.

"Negotiators were talking to him, and he was being cooperative," he said as of 12:30 a.m. "They were optimistic that they would be able to have a peaceful resolution to the problem."

According to Focal Point and reports from the scene, the suspect is a former military man who was looking for his ex-girlfriend at her family's home. She reportedly has not lived there for several years,

Another case of human relationship issues: ex-boyfriend gets even with the family of her girlfriend, around Christmas there was the very tragic case of the Santa killer, a bitter divorce resolution, he even lost his only companion dog to his wife because a judge order...c'mon give this guy a break!, is too much, he went nuts against her ex-wife extended family, very sad when loved ones turn against each other.
