Why waste their/our time? The house is priced at least $100K too high. In my opinion it makes them look pathetic. Your thoughts?

Look again, they reduced the price by $1, not $1k.

As for why they bothered? Well, empirical evidence would suggest that people think that $1,098,999 is much lower than $1,099,000 than it really is...
