What keeps you logging in despite your better judgement?

For me, it's pretty much down to 3 simple things.

1) To stay informed about the local real estate market. Something kind of "traumatizing" happened to me. In 2003, I bought a home. Once I bought, I stopped checking the MLS every day and I stopped paying attention to home values. I didn't know anything about anything. Ok, maybe a little something but very little. Probably about as much as your average FTHB, which isn't saying much. I did not know what a bubble was until it was too late to cash in on it. I sold the home in 2008. Not at all for a loss or anything like that. Made a little. Just wish I had more knowledge at the time. It made me realize how blessed I was to escape the calamity by applying common sense. I decided I will never, EVER turn a blind eye again. Buying a home is no excuse to mentally check out. I will always stay up-to-date on values, rates, etc. and be the most educated buyer / seller / owner I can be.

2) Smart people. There are a few people here I've learned very much from especially about real estate, taxes, finance, investing, etc. They know way more than I ever will. So, I figure if even 2% seeps into my head, I'm a better person for having known them. I am very glad to have met these people.

3) Socialization. I don't get out much.

And you?

Aww. You're just trying to tie with Baby Irvine for my favorite TI member. Oooh, but you and Qwerty are neck-and-neck. Qwerty and Baby Irvine both defended me when TMCC had me in his cross-hairs with a certain vile remark recently. I took note of what a nice thing they did for me.  :) These gentlemen got lots of bonus points!  {{squeeze}}

I need something to do when I'm sitting on the toilet and when I'm at a boring meeting. TI fills that role!  This is not the only forum I visit but I do frequent this one because of the good information of homes in irvine.

I bought my first home last year and I like to keep informed on the values and happenings in the fast changing place that is Irvine. I want to know what they are building where and why and for how much. Plus it makes me feel good seeing that I bought at the bottom.

I read / post on a lot of message boards and this one is particularly relevant.

Mostly for a good distraction.. to get local facts/ information. Meet locals who shy away at hello in real world. Real estate info.. I don't care much about current trends and prices, but I like knowing about California courts and the conservatories :-)

... because I'm waiting for the old schoolers to come back.

I have a yellow ribbon tied around my computer for NoVas, Graph, Cayci, Vic, BK(!), Tmare, IPOP, PatStar, Skek, Eval, Cameray and whoever else I forgot to name.

I found TI from a link on the irvinehousingblog which I found shortly after I purchased my house in Irvine.  :-\

I'm hoping to learn a bit about Irvine and to fuel my fear that maybe I paid too much for my house.  ;)

Drama  :D

More than anything to keep posted on the local market, learn from other people's experience. Contribute with my own experience.. or lack thereof

Found this site while looking to purchase in Irvine a couple years back.  Now that we are settled in Irvine, this is a great place to hear about new restaurants and other happenings in the area.  Also, it seems like many of you are about the same age with little ones in the household and I can totally relate to many of your stories.

I have nothing else better to do.  haha  j/k  I enjoy sharing my knowledge, experience, and what I see happening in the market with everyone so they can make a more informed decision when it comes to real estate.  I've been fortunate enough to meet some really good people off the forums who I can call my friends.  Plus, there's always some interesting posts to read from the informative ones to the snarky ones.  :D
