Who does the "chores"?

Do you do it or do you hire someone to do it?

So long ago, people use to clean their own house and mow their own lawn.

We stopped doing that around 2000-something. First with the gardener... and then my wife said: "Wait... why should I clean the house if you don't mow the lawn?"

It's all about time/money... and I guess this coincided with us having kids.

Although, my gardener cost way less than her housekeeper.

So what is your situation?

Note: This poll was inspired by bones who asked if anyone cleans their own shower.

i picked the qwerter answer.

Housecleaner every two weeks + a cut the grass weekly. The nanny also does light housekeeping. Sweeps three times a week with a swiffer and uses the swiffer wetjet once a week as well as dusting.

I guess the gardener answer also depends on what kind of lot you are living on. We have both a front yard and backyard... recent IP properties have neither. :)

Bottom line:  We don't trust strangers inside our house with our kid and belongings.  So we have a semi clutter built up my midweek, and we swifter and clean when guests arrive.  It gets dusty at my house. :)

Our nanny is great, runs the shark steam mop weekly, vacuums common areas, and cleans my mess in the kitchen.  We are basically responsible for our master suite and the office.

Our gardener basically fills the green waste bin weekly with the flotsam from the jungle.  A little mowing a lot of raking and picking up the fallen leaves and hacking back jungle growth.

why no option for kids cleaning the house?
I knew I forgot something.

But that goes under "we do the cleaning"... or you can mark "Other".

It's funny you mention this, when I was a kid, I was the housekeeper, and when I got older, became the lawnmower.

I think once mine hit preteen or teen, they will have new "jobs".

I wonder if this is a cultural/time of life thing.

My parents didn't hire a housekeeper until they saw us do it.

We didn't have one when we didn't have kids.
