Where Do you go to fix your Tires

It appears that at least one of my tires has a nail in it. Had low pressure sign on Sunday, went to costco filled up the air ( was at 19psi). Now it is showing low pressure again.

Any recommendations for a local tire shop to fix this? I am at work in Irvine. Costco won't fix it as it is still a OEM tire.

Sears Auto usually does a good job. I'm assuming its in fairly good condition.

I'm recommending them because they use a patch and plug system, meaning the patch sits on the inside of your tire, and the plug shoots through the hole where the nail used to be. Other "plug only" types have a higher tendency to dislocate and fall out.

I think a flat repair is around $20 bucks these days. Hopefully the nail's not near the sidewall of the tire, because then it's unrepairable.

Fixed it for you. I go to Discount tires.... If it is a valve stem then its cheap and easy. If it is something else, I'd say be safe and replace the tire. I drive like and idiot sometimes so i'm not going to compromise my safety.

If the sidewall was punctured you'd be pretty much SOL and have to replace the tire. But if it's on the tread, and if the puncture isn't too large, you'll be fine just fixing it.

I've ridden on patched motorcycle tires and they've always held up.

And thanks for compromising my safety by driving like an idiot Ninjie... JK... Don't shoot!

Discount Tires, Sears, and Just Tire all do patch and plug repairs. I don't have an issue with patch and plug repairs, even on race car tires. Expect to pay $40 for a patch and plug repair.

On at least 2 occasions, America's Tires has fixed my flat for free.

I guess they do it to get more business.

As for Jack in the Box... that's no_vas' favorite restaurant... don't mess (and let's hope he pulls through his surgery).

I'm not a spray and pray... i'm into percision! As for driving stupid, i don't ever do that with alot of people around....

I've ridden and driven on patched stuff also, it just depends. I'd rather preach safety than savings.

It's a bummer, my Car only had 6,000 miles on it when I got a nail in a tire, it was about 2" inboard of the sidewall and they still said it was too close so I had to get a new Tire...they have a diagram on the Wall to prove it...

That was at Big O in irvine..

For replacement Tires I always use Tucker Tire in Laguna Niguel, right by the 5 and Crown Valley..

Never been able to beat their Price and service..

Call a Day ahead and they will get any brand of Tire you want....

I don't know if I got ripped off, but I brought a set of Mich from Costco several years ago. And four weeks ago, I found a nail on one of the tires. Pressure still holds up. I brought it to Costco at Tustin II, and they said they refuse to fix it because the tire is too old. I hardly drive it, so there are still plenty of thread on them. Anyway, I am too busy to bike there and drive it back, so I told them to give me a new set of tires. I just don't feel good about the whole experience. I tried The Just Tired at Jamboree and Edinger for patching previously, but almost every time they says the nail is too close to side wall. Don't know if every tire store try to do business with me.

There is a date code on the side of the tire at the end of the DOT number. it will read something like:

2304

Which means the tire was built the twenty third week of 2004. That tire is almost 5 years old and is close to the end of it's life. A modern radial tire (modern meaning newer than 1976) will last 5-6 years before the moisture in the air (you know, the air they used to inflate the tire?) actually causes the steel to rust out and that causes the belt package to delaminate and seperate and that causes a unexpected blowout, almost always at highway speeds.

They likely didn't explain it that way, but that's what they were trying to tell you.

You can trust Costco to always tell you the truth about your tires. Nobody there is on comission or has enough brains to lie to you. Costco does a good job of training monkeys to not screw it up.

If you get a nail anywhere near the sidewall, that tire is unreparable. If it's in the middle, it's easy. Even if you can safely fix a nail in the sidewall, nobody will do it because of the liaiblity thanks to the Ford Explorer/Firestone disaster a decade ago (not the fault of the tires, but of Ford for recomending the tires be underinflated to get the truck to pass rollover standards).

JitB isn't my fav. fast food. That would go to Del Taco. I like Jack but it's usually the third option. I'm just worried about Jack.

I brought my car to Irvine Toyota on Technology drive in Irvine just before lunch. I didn't go to Tucker and America Tires as both a bit too far for me. I was afraid my tire might get flat on the way there ( I am too lazy to change to the spare one). $25 bucks, 30 mins I was out of there. And they washed my car.

I had a run with America's tires as on 2 occasions that the my tire is not fixable and that you need a new one. I grew up working in a gas station plugging and patching tires for over 8 years. One of my best friend who i keep in touch with who also worked a long time at the gas station with me still had all the patching and plugging equipment and i fixed it myself. I still buy my tires at America's tire but it is scam that they just don't want fix tires but push you to buy a new tire and and sell you a tire warranty. Both of the repairs where drywall screws that you could see and where near the middle of the tread. I would always get a second opinion if they do not show you the leak. They dunk the tire and use a spray bottle and you can see the bubbles. If they do not want to do that like America's tire did then i would try Ramona or Sears. Every tire store is different so I am not saying that all Americas tires does this and i still buy all my tires from them as they are usually the best priced and usually pretty honest except for this issue.

i had some bad buying expereinces with Sears, and I refuse to give them any of my business unless they are the last store standing.
