What to do with small crack on windshield?

I attached 2 pictures so you can see how small it is. I asked a couple car guys I know but wanted to get some second opinions. I know I gotta take care of this ASAP or it will spider out quickly.

So far I have been told:

1. go to a store and buy some patch stuff

2. call some windows guy

3. Don't go to the dealer, they will for sure try to charge you to replace the whole thing

I'm going to the mountains on Saturday, so I'm hoping to take care of this today or tomorrow. Any recommendations on what to get or who to call?

Thanks in advance, 24

See if your insurance has glass coverage and what their requirements are. This happened to me once. I had the glass replaced. It was quick and painless. Good luck.

Since it doesn't impair your vision while driving, I would just buy some glass sealer at Kragen and call it a day. Unless you wanna spend 180+ on a new windshield.

Most insurance companies you need to pay your deductible, so that won't even meet it unless you have a really low deductible.

The sealer works pretty well, stops it from spreading.

It's too close to the edge to patch. As soon as they put pressure on it to inject the acrylic, the crack will run to the edge.

Depending on the make and model, a replacement windshield can be installed for ~$200 by the mobile guys. Unless it's more than $350, I'd advise against filing an insurance claim as your payments will certainly rise.

Any autoglass shop will be able to give you a replacement quote. And from a technical standpoint, there is ZERO difference between aftermarket and OEM, so don't pay extra unless you have a specific reason.

Saturday Mechanic: Repairing Windshields

BY MIKE ALLEN

my mechanic told me:

if it is a ding, rather than a long crack, and out of your direct line of sight, just seal it.

you can spend $$ at an auto store

or you can use clear nail polish for 99c, they are the same.

Thanks everyone.

First I will try out since Kragen is right next to the gym:

And hopefully I dont mess things up and will be posting a nice picture tomorrow

Just a quick update, I did what someone above suggested and sealed it.

Here is the final picture (sorry I was parked in the shade):

Looks like it did the trick, you can barely even see it now! Thanks everyone for there suggestions.

I think that Kragen is the last remaining auto parts store in Irvine. The one on Culver/Walnut in the Trader Joe's mall closed long ago.

As long as the crack is a ding of sorts and is smaller than a quarter, those sealer kits work wonders. I've used them twice on two different vehicles and you can barely see the crack.
