Since no one likes to talk about the best NBA team in LA this season, let's discuss what should the Lakers do.

At 6th to last, the Lakers have less than a 8% chance to get a top 3 draft pick. If they do, some say they should trade for a veteran player (like KLove) and even they don't, they should still try to trade their pick.

On average, for the last 10 years, only about 1 player in the top 3 picks goes on to become an impact player in the NBA (I count 13 players in the last 10 draftshttp://www.oregonlive.com/nba/index.ssf/2013/05/nba_draft_lottery_top_3_picks.html).

So would it be better to keep the pick or trade it? Some think that you can keep the pick AND land a top star because of the Laker reputation, but I think it depends on who you are looking at. Obviously, some players (like Dwight) don't care about LaLa, but others (like KLove) do want to be Purple/Gold.

I think it depends on who they can trade for and what pick they get but I lean towards trading for talent because the draft is not a sure thing. What do you think?

I would keep a top 3 pick and get another good player as a free agent. That would give u two good building blocks. The concern I have with Kevin love is that he appears to be a stat machine but can't get his team in the playoffs - ever

Keep the pick. Top picks are still dirt cheap while players you trade for are expensive. With what is now a much more strict cap getting those potentially top, but cheap players is important.

yeah becoming similar to NFL, where the QB gets like 20% of the salary cap.  The49ers and Seahawks rebuilt through the draft with young QBs and were able to pay the players around them. the NBA will be similar where you have an all star on a rookie contract, an established star earning max or maybe two if you are lucky and then you can pay some role players.  miami's role players suck cause they have three almost max players. you have to land the all star rookie first though (and you cant be cleveland cause no one wants to play there) because if you have two all stars already you wont have the high draft pick.  lets see if philly can execute the strategy this year.

We need to do well in this years draft.. or we'll have to tank again.  Can't get big time FAs without a solid young group first.

You basically need 3 allstars to win a championship nowadays.  Kobe is a marginal allstar now...they won't win while Kobe is there.  With him gone in 2 years, you get 2 top allstars...Love and Durant and then a 2nd level allstar like Irving.

Yesterday's OCReg says that it's strong that Mike No D will be back next year.

So that probably means they won't resign Pau but Kobe still has someone he can blame for another season.

I guess it's hard to tell from the poll question but if they don't get a top 3 pick, is there someone worth a top 6 pick? Or should they try to trade up or trade away if it's not a top 3. I hear people saying that the draft is deep this year but I don't think so. Like I posted originally, most of the time only 1 of the top 3 pan out and out of the top 6, that's probably worse odds. Anthony Bennett is a bust so far... but maybe they can get lucky like with MCW (who was picked 11th).
