To conclude that thread it has a happy ending, My best friend is now courting/dating a very nice and attractive Japanese girl and hopefully they will get married by end of this year. I'll be his best man.

Oh, my..... I think Ten is amusing, not insulting. And, I just don't think now is the time to start pitting the honesty of UCLA against the "criminality" of USC. I'd love to know just how the Japanese gangsters made it to the top of the liver transplant list at UCLA, and how much money really changed hands.

I'm not so sure about that as I have seen first hand USC folk calling Bruins underachievers, losers, etc... with upmost sincerity and an intense hatred in their voice. It's really bizarre. In fact some UCLA grads won't even go the big game because of how intensely abusive the SC fans can be. At a UCLA/Oregon game I witnessed an SC fan make some slur to my husband, tell him to move and then shove him. He was about to punch my husband and stupid me, I stand in front of him thinking he wouldn't hit a woman. Nope, he actually went to punch me, but security tackled him. I've never seen anything like that before. I don't expect that ten would behave that badly, but I think the verbal abuse is sincere.

The Japanese gangsters was awful, but the law will be the law.

Really? I have been to several UCLA/USC games, and I may not be a grad, but I proudly sit in the Trojan section with my civil and successful friends who did graduate from there. I have never seen any more ugliness at their games than I have with any other sporting event. Are you sure you are not confused and you were at a Raider game instead?

College is supposed to be a place to get an education and have some fun. Doesn't sound like the school you went to was that much fun.

All you are doing is continuing to give ten more ammo to fire back. And, when a certain prof comes back, you might get ready for that apology now for ripping on USC. Funny, how you have stooped to the same level you have been so critical of.

I found my husband attractive when I met him, but fell in love when I got to know him and then he became the most attractive man in the world.

No need to get all worked up because of TEN. He is a typical of a SC grad. He needs to flaunt to maintain that mysterious aura that captures wondering followers.

Graphrix, if you were were wearing an opposing team's shirt you would have heard it from the heckling SC fans. You know SC fans are bad if they purposely go to UCLA games to cause problems when UCLA is not even playing SC that week.

As for USC beating UCLA in everything, what are you talking about? If football means everything then congrats to you.

As for the Japanese gang member liver thing, DID ANYONE ONE OF YOU READ THE ACTUAL ARTICLE FROM THE LA TIMES? The article shows UCLA displaying a PLAQUE honoring the $100,000 gift in the main entrance to floor 7. If UCLA wanted to HIDE this they would not have displayed a plaque honoring the grant. Secondly, has anyone thought about patient confidentiality? Should doctors discriminate you based on your occupation for a liver transplant? Lastly, if a hospital just saved your life, I think it is very reasonable for someone to donate money to that particular hospital -- I KNOW I WOULD!!

Stepping_up, there is more UCLA folks than you think. We make lots of money, but do not purposely flaunt it. I do not purposely flaunt my UCLA clothes. My UCLA clothes are more subtle not those sweater stuff with that SC grad typically wear. I do not purposely wear my UCLA clothes near another campus out of respect -- but around UCI I see plenty of SC folks wearing it nonetheless. I live in Concordia so I also purposely do not wear my UCLA clothing around Concordia University.

Everyone, yes, there are BOTH BAD UCLA and USC fans but even though I am bias, I do honestly think on average UCLA folks are more humble and friendly.

I found my husband attractive when I met him, but fell in love when I got to know him and then he became the most attractive man in the world.

Had the (dis)pleasure of meeting Mr. Pitt once, not a very nice guy and talk about bad acne scars. He looked like he hadn't showered in a few days too. I found this kind of odd too, he was wearing the same clothes that he was wearing in one of his famous magazine covers. I guess you do get to keep the clothes after the photo shoot.

Honestly, my initial jab was merely to point out that some of us find that the USC "we own everything and everyone else is not worthy culture" a big turn off. While I understand that it is merely a generalization and that there are SC alumni that do not fit into this category, I just thought it was ironic that everything Ten purports to be repulses me and I fell in love with and married his exact opposite, all the way down to being a Bruin. Underachiever? My husband, his family and his classmates are wealthy in integrity, values, life experiences, intellect, and low and behold, assets and income, but the latter isn't the main goal, nor is bragging about it. Some people just have class without trying, others, well, I won't go there.

You're right. I didn't grow up around here. I moved here in '95 with my Northern Cal values. Culture shock! But then I found that with such a large population, there are really good people that don't have superficiality, materialism and competition as their main priorities. And you're right, college for me was not about having fun. I put myself through CC and then State working full time. I was ignorant of the financing options, scholarships, etc.... It was about an education for me. Granted it wasn't as good as others, but I did study and learn a few things. A lot of what Ten purports I find repulsive and I'm not going to be apologetic about it. In retrosprect, I probably shouldn't have said anything because as Lawyer Liz reminded me, it only eggs him on. On top of that, it seems to bring you out in his defense.

Perhaps if someone starts a poll, Ten: vile or amusing? we'll see where the majority stands

Yup, I will come to almost anyone's defense who is being unfairly asked to be censored. I lived in the bay area for 3 years, and censorship is not something you will find there, and you won't find it here either. So with all your values, you sure don't value free speech the way a true NorCal person would. That, and I think anyone who takes ten seriously needs to lighten up. Yeah, that would be a great idea. Sure sounds like you don't want him to go away, because you just keep adding fuel to the fire. I know I don't care what the majority thinks, hell that is why I am here, because I have gone against the grain from the majority on my near 2400 posts that I have. Oh, and I doubt ten really cares what the majority thinks either, but it sure would make for an entertaining thread. What's unfair about asking that the convo be moved to a "Nightlife" or "Winners" thread rather than a real estate thread? We have a biking thread, a dining thread, and threads that are otherwise located in the "Lifestyle" or "Water Cooler" sections. When multiple people express that they have a problem with the post, is it really that hard to ask and analyze why, rather than go on the attack first? I don't know if you noticed, but I happened to notice today that one of your old time regulars wasn't around. I was saddened by that, and by the fact that apparently that person no longer feels welcome here. To quote a moderator I respect a lot, "There’s no more useless advice than to tell people to just ignore such things. We can’t. We automatically read what falls under our eyes."

Sorry, Dude, but I think you would have been wise to consider Skek's comments further.

This is a great thread. We've gone from racism, to misogyny, to class hatred (USC vs. UCLA). I can only imagine whats next.

The last one being a particularly useless discussion, as I've said before, college is a waste of time and money. Be it USC or UCLA, either way you overpaid for an education that anyone with internet access and some self discipline could give themselves. ;-)

Now that is some constructive criticism I can respect.

First, I have never said his comments have not been in poor taste, or not in the wrong place. I think they are, and I think they could have a more appropriate place. However, I recognized early that to react is only going to add fuel to his fire. That was my point, I kept egging him on in the Lennar thread, and once I, along with most everyone else was over it, I stopped. That could have easily been avoided here too.

Second, I also think the way people went about it was wrong. It was a full on attack, and if people simply took the high road with a mature response to politely ask for those types of comments to have their own thread, I would have supported that. But, when another member gets attacked right and left with lectures, name calling, long winded PMs, and bashing him the same way they are criticizing him for, then that is unfair. Sorry, but it is. I actually felt bad for him, because people only saw the bad and couldn't see the good in the history of ten's posts. I asked for people to go look at his posts from the past, and it doesn't seem like anyone did, because they would see a person who has asked some very good questions and has usually responded with a kind thank you in return. People simply chose to see the bad and ignore the good, and it happens all the time in life.

If we lost a member then I do feel bad, but I would also feel bad if Ten stopped posting. I don't want to lose any member, well... some nutters that stick to Lansner only I don't miss much, but for the most part I don't want to lose any member. Anyone who has ever contributed something of value, (which despite some of the inappropriateness of some of Ten's comments he has added value in other comments), to these forums shouldn't let one poster bother them that much, and should take the appropriate channels to change it if they do.

Skek said it best in the Lennar thread, Ten made a rookie mistake by calling out Cayci in a public thread rather than a PM, and every one who called out Ten here made a rookie mistake by calling him out publicly here. There is a report button, and all the mods get an email when someone does, and I haven't gotten one yet for Ten, but I have gotten a bunch for a lot lamer things than this.

And, EvaL I still love you too, and I am glad we can discuss this in a way that is appropriate and respond in kind. I see your point, and agree with it, but I hope you see mine, even if you don't agree with it, I hope it brings a little different perspective.

I just went back and re-read page 3. My read of that is not the same as your recall. People did politely ask him to stop and were told, by him and you, to (paraphrasing) pound sand. There was a suggestion (by Troop) to create a new thread, which was seconded by others, and it was ignored. Were people initially saying Ten was entirely bad or evil? No, they asked him to knock off the constant woman talk. As you yourself noted, "There is a report button, and all the mods get an email when someone does, and I haven’t gotten one yet for Ten, but I have gotten a bunch for a lot lamer things than this," which goes to show that people do not note only the bad. No one asked that he be banned. Rather than report, the community tried to self police, but were stymied in doing so when you (a Mod!) said you had to come in and "help him get his game back." Like it or not, that's a stamp of approval.

To me, Ten's latest comments are similar to Reason's comments when he (she?) first joined this forum: pointless, except with more words and occasionally some wit. The value-adds haven't shown up in awhile, at least not that I've seen. I disagree that it was a rookie mistake to call him out here. In fact, it was only because someone said something publicly that the group was able to learn the breadth and depth of opinions.
