Not to step in between the Stanford/Cal rivalry (aka the BIG GAME if you're from NorCal), I gotta take issue with you demeaning Stanford.

In the span of about three months, the folks at Stanford Hospital saved the life of both my dad (cancer) and my newborn nephew (complications from a botched delevery). A top notch medical facility.

Uhm, wtf? Troop, you seem great and post a lotta useful stuff, so it pains me to argue with you, but I haven't seen anything 'demeaning' in this thread. If you think calling women "chicks" or talking about picking up girls is 'creepy', I'd like to say welcome to America. Men and women both act and talk and behave like that on a routine basis.

To assume that someone who goes to clubs to meet girls is on par with a rapist is the real problem here.

If you have evidence that he's *actually* been demeaning to women, i'm going to swallow my words and jump to your side in a hearbeat. But calling women 'chicks' or certain ones 'getable' isn't going to cut it.

You seem like a fine young man. Let me explain something to you. When a woman is called a chick or a babe, it's demeaning. When he tells people where to find the most drunk chicks and babes in order to score, it's demeaning. He obviously holds women in low esteem to speak about them in such a manner. He objectifies them....and is not shy to hide it. Quite frankly, I'm sick of it.

I'm thinking this is one of those "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" situations. I probably cannot convey my contempt for his words on this blog, but I will tell you that something goes right through me when I read some of his posts. I would imagine that the majority of women on this blog feel this way. If they don't, well...I don't know what to think about that.

My Spidey sense is jangling with this guy, and I trust my instincts. Now if he would leave the comments about women out of the equation, I would have no issue with him posting. Meanwhile, I'll block him and you all can interact with him if you wish.

It's not harmless blog banter when it offends. It's not "boys will be boys" either, it's just not right. I'm all for goofing around and satire, but this, to me, is not satire. This is his persona, online or not, and to me it sends the wrong message.
 
Looking to meet women is one thing, looking for drunk chicks is predatory. Any decent man would not take advantage of a woman under the influence, much less prey on her. Frankly, that is criminal. I'm shocked that the male community thinks this is acceptable behavior! Perhaps the objectifying is a "men are from mars thing," but condoning a man seeking out intoxicated women because they are more vulnerable is a civilized vs uncivilized issue.
 
I would have to agree with Trooper and stepping_up on this. I guess it is not "Cool" for Panda to ask questions that are not at the intelligence level of some you guys in the industry. They are not meant to be stupid, they were honest questions, but at the same time, it is alright for one of the members to make sexual implications of scoring with vulnerable drunken women. Though, I respect the intelligence and expertise of some of you like "Graph" in the real estate industry, I really question the values of Ten ,and also Graph who is defending this guy. Ten, if you are a young undergrad at UC Irvine, I may be able to understand your immaturity, but if you are in your 30s and 40s talking like this, It is pretty sad my friend.

Anyways, the study was - people growing up in the internet, blogging age will WRITE what they normally

would not say to somebody face to face. It's like you get a free blast through your fingers and you can

type whatever you want. That's what the study showed, no one race blasting more than another.

Also, bloggers can assume multiple identities so somebody could really start portraying a role just to start a conversation.

I'm not saying that this is/was the case here, but keep it in mind.

I'm backing Trooper as well. People get offended for different reasons and I take offense as well. The chick topic is getting old. Start a Man Thread and we won't have to view the responses. It's easier to avoid a thread than it is a screenname.

I have interacted with over 10,000 high school students. And from my experience, there is a very wide range of interests, cultures, and values. There are the college bound honor students who are career-focused and perhaps, one day, be family oriented. Then there are the social reckless type that can't wait to go into the real world, get drunk, and party. Many of my friends are doctors, pharmacists, optometrists, engineers, etc. who don't get drunk and run around butt naked. But I have others who are definitely into the bar scene and live more promiscuous lifestyles. For all of you who are judgmental, I want you to figure what personality type you are. Then determine if you have interacted with others that have different lifestyles than yours. If you haven't, please don't judge, because others pity you as much as you pity them. Yes, men and women, can choose to get drunk just to have a wild time. Others get drunk to relax. It just depends on who you are.
 
What also bothers me is when a Moderator backs someone during a conflict. Moderators need to realize that their words have more weight than a regular member. It's almost like a parent who sides with one child during a sibling fight. When a parent sides with one sibling - it gives that sibling more power to keep doing what they were doing - whether that child was right or wrong. I appreciate the role of a Moderator and I appreciate it when they jump in when someone becomes offensive, racist, vulgar, etc. But I don't think it was appropriate to back Ten when so many members were expressing their opinions regarding his posts. And it wasn't only women who expressed their distaste. A neutral position would have been appropriate in this situation.

There’s no reason to over blow things and act like I’m targeting anyone here.

I was simply replying to his comments.

I’ve interacted with 25w100K+ before, and I know like me he goes out.

He even named some of the places he likes to go and his favorite drink, scotch.

Didn’t randomly post my response in the California gets it right thread or somewhere else where it would’ve been inappropriate.

There’s a lot of good people here, I’m not trying to create drama or have people draw sides. That’s never been my intention.

One more thing, a few months back there was a AGC ( I think most members of this forum understand what that stands for) picture floating around with two guys, who I’m pretty sure are members of this forum, placing their hands on a woman’s bum.

If I’m not mistaken she’s even wearing an IHB pink T-Shirt.

The picture looked like it was taken at a party, where I’m pretty sure alcohol was being served.

My point is, there was no uproar at that time, nada, zip, nothing.

These same people complaining should've come out and said that was de-meaning and predatory. It was a picture that these same people were joking about constantly.

Fast Forward to the present

I mention to 25w100K+ , a guy who admits to going to clubs, to try Sutra.

Pitch forks and torches are being rolled out, while Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC is being notified.

In that context, please explain to me how my reply to 25w100K+ is worse?

For me, it's the frequency. When somebody posts a risque photo, once, I don't care. When somebody hijacks thread after thread with discussions of "chasing chicks" that are simultaneously offensive AND boring (by virtue of their repetitiveness), I get annoyed. This is the Irvine Housing Blog, not the Irvine Fake Horny Guys Pretending To Chase Young Drunk Women With Big Boobs Blog. And to top it off, there's even a forum where you're free to start a thread on the frequency of bad boob jobs in various clubs or whatever and nobody will have any problem with it. But here we are, with another potentially interesting thread derailed in the (hypothetically) Irvine Real Estate forum.

No need to forward the PMs. I have enough to deal with in my PMs today as is.

All the mods here at IHB have agreed that censorship is the last thing we ever want to do. For example it takes a lot to get banned here. You pretty much have to be drunk and constantly telling people to go f*%k themselves to get banned. I, as a moderator, am not going to censor anyone when the ignore button can be used on someone who has been misrepresented. Am I sticking up for Tenmagnet or taking a side here to my favorite child in a sibling fight? No, what he has said has offended some, so ignore him, and if you don't want to read the quotes, then don't. Have any of you actually gone to read some of his past posts? Hopefully you did take the time to do that before you chose to hit the ignore button on him, because like I said before he has asked some great questions and has been very kind and respectful to thank the person who has answered his question.

So while I am a moderator, I am not parent and I am not going to censor him or anyone else like him, and I doubt any of the other mods will either. It seems that most who are getting offended are those who did not grow up in OC. Well, I did, and everything Ten says is the typical stereotype of a portion of our society here. So much so, I doubt he is really like that in real life, it is too much satire to be real. Real or not it can be offensive, but it is the truth. Have any of you been to Sutra? He isn't joking about that place. Does that mean he is a predator, no, and yes there are some at Sutra who are, but not everyone there is and I highly doubt Ten is that one. But, that is because I took the time to read some of his previous non-offensive posts to realize he is actually a very kind person.

That is my opinion, moderator or not, I will always give my opinion. I come here because I can do that and not because I have to watch what I say, and I wouldn't be here if that were the case. Trooper is my friend, I normally have her back, this time she can chose to have her side or see it from my side. Either way, it won't change our friendship, and I have not taken her words lightly and everything she has said I have considered a valid point. However, we are both adults and realize we can't always be on the same page, and we can agree to disagree. The best part, she got to voice her opinion and I got to voice mine, without having to hold back on anything and that is the way it should be on IHB.

Believe me I’ve tried to make my intentions clear.

How can I not be defensive when someone wrongfully accuses me and then labels me as being the type of guy who’d spike a woman’s drink and prey on her?

If you were in my shoes you'd react the same.

I didn't grow up in OC. If this kind of behavior is reflective of a portion of society here, I'm glad I didn't.
