First of all, my apology to jumpcat.

I have not decided what to do for my mom. Was thinking about maybe an earring this time, but we probably end up in a restaurant. Yeah, I know...

Anything else? She is in her 60's, BTW.

Gift certificate to her favorite store and then going to a steakhouse. She may be tiny but she eats like a truck driver. haha

Here are gifts I have found work well for older ladies:

1. Nice bath products (ex. go to an upscale store like Sephora or something and either buy a premade basket, or ask salesgirl what to put in a basket). A nice thing she can enjoy even if she is loathe to leave the house, and that she doesn't have to store later.

2. Homemade cookies. They love these.

3. Small photo book with pictures of grandkids

4. Family calendar - make a calendar with family pictures in it for next year (ex. 2010) and add entries for everyone's birthdays and any family dates (ex. holidays, anniversaries, family get togethers) they also would like to remember. This is a big hit, but takes time. Good Xmas present as Dec this year makes it good timing to give next years calendar. Cheapest way to make it is to download a calendar template for Microsoft Word, fill in all the 2010 dates and add the entries and print it out. Find 13 good family photos and print out 8x10s at Costo.com, photo section. Then go to Office Depot and ask them to punch the printouts and add stiffer paper to made front and back covers and ring bind it. Take it home and gluestick the photos into it. Takes time, but a really nice present for about $20 total. You can also go and just ask somewhere (ex. Kinkos) to make the calendar for you, but you tend to get smaller 4x6 pictures that way and don't have all the family hoidays on there and it costs more.

There is nothing wrong with a restaurant BTW - most older ladies seem to enjoy being with family the most of all anyhow.
 
Mom's favorite restaurants put in a hat... oldest grandchild picks from hat.

I found out last night that the lotto pick was Japanese.

The other Mom... we buy flowers and make a visit to the cemetary.
 
my wife's neck and shoulders are pretty tight from breastfeeding, I'm trying to find a good masseuse, so she and her friends can have a relaxing time while I watch the baby...

Second Mothers day without my Mom.

We always got in a fight anyway by the end of the day.

She was just never a "happy camper" in later life.

Death finally stopped her smoking habit. She made it to 76.

Going to take the "Ex" and Son out to a nice meal later. Sushi is sounding good.

Hopefully the boy has some "tread" on his card so he can help pay the tab.

Things I’ve learned on my wife’s first mother’s day:

Flowers, chocolates and cards are good, but what she really needs most is simply a stress free day; a clean house and some lone time.
