Village Apartments in Irvine-Aye or Nay?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I've lived here for about 3 months and have generally enjoyed the experience. The only major problem I've had (living in Delrey 1BDRM $1890/month) is the people hanging out in the spa (made the mistake of getting a unit overlooking the pool). But the major bonuses are the proximity to the spectrum, the 15 minute drive to Laguna, the parking, and the staff. I've never had to drive the 405 on a daily basis until moving here and that is a real drag.

Overall a great complex.

I just went there today and I thought it was very nice. I am considering renting a 1 bedroom in delrey. Its 50 sq ft bigger than my current Woodbury apartment but for 150 bucks more the gf gets her hardwood floors and granite countertops, but I don't know if I'm willing to give up my garage yet =/

Do any of you guys current at the Village have any issues with noise? I was reading apartmentratings and it seems that's the only gripe against the Village. Thanks.

Hi folks,

Just to give you an update, we just moved to the Village (Delrey building). So far, I like it a lot, I tried the on-site dry cleaners (the prices are actually not any higher than regular dry cleaners), the saltwater pool for each building (the one at Delrey has kids pool, grills, and a fountain playground for kids, just awesome, the best part-nobody else was there on a weekday around 5, something I didn't expect). The internet cafe came in handy while I was waiting for my connection to be up (get this, they have a scanner and printer, and you can print up to 10 pages free of charge). My kid loves the playground by Serena building and, of course, the 20 or so fountains that we found so far :) Best part: people here are very friendly, in a couple of days, I met 5 nice folks, most of them professionals who work nearby, and my kid already found 3 toddlers to play with :) The crowd here seems to be a mix of rich kids (a bunch of 20 year olds driving new fancy cars), some families with 1 or 2 kids, single professionals, many people have pets, overall, very pleasant crowd for my taste. The staff here is awesome! I like how they think of the little details, like when the maintenance guy comes over, he always wears shoe covers.

I hear there is also a doggy park, a basketball court and a tennis court, but I haven't looked at them yet.

My windows right on the street, but the double-panel windows do work-street noise hasn't been a problem so far. I hear that units with windows overlooking the yard are super quiet.

On the downside: I do miss my direct access garage, walking with your groceries to the elevator and then to your place is a pain, and I'll have to get used to getting my mail not from my garage but from the mailroom (there is one for each building). I'm sure there will be something else, but that is all I can think of now.

I'll keep you posted.

If anybody has any questions/needs a private tour/wants to split a referral fee, whisper :)

Hey Blackacre Seeker,

Glad you like it! Also, there's free gourmet breakfast on the 1st Sat of every month. The complex gym now opens from 5am until 11pm (for a while, there were talk that it was gonna be 24/7).

Did you guys sign up for the Monte Carlo night?? I have been here one week and love it. The people are very friendly! I liked Woodbury, but this has so much more potential for fun. I love hotel style living. Who needs to own?? :)

I second that, it does feel like living in a nice hotel :)

I haven't signed up for the Monte Carlo night, I doubt I can make it, but we should do a IHB-villagers get together sometime soon after we get settled in.

So far, my understanding is that the following IHBers live here:

RSweetman

Wendyinoc

Vicstah

Blackacre-seeker

Anybody else want to come out and admit it :)?

I am interested in moving here as well, however, with an eighth month old and a two year old, not having an attached garage would be a bit of a pain. Are there assigned parking spots and are they close to the elevator? Can you park on the street if you have a outside-facing ground level apt? Thx

I have a co-worker who just moved and is raving about The Villages. To the folks that have lived there awhile - do you see any drop-off in attentiveness or activities as time progresses, or are they consistent. I wonder if they will keep it up for the long run (theme nights, free breakfast, free printing, etc.) As much as I dislike large complexes and am firmly entrenched in CM, The Villages sure sound like a nice place to live.

Re: Parking

You have assigned parking in the garage. I don't recommend parking overnight on the street. The towing companies are out pretty regularly for flagrant offenders. Be careful! :)

Re: Service

I don't think the service level has dropped much. You are paying a premium to live in a luxury complex, and these guys know it. Breakfast has been there forever (I think I've attended 1). The amenities are great. Blackacre, the pool, gym, etc are absolutely empty during the business hours M-F. Gets a little packed on the weekends though.

This is the first time I have ever heard this said about an IAC apartment complex. Does any other complex have this feeling? I like that sound and design of the Village, just not a fan of the location. Although, I guess adding 15 minutes to my commute each way isn't too bad.

Skek, right back at you!

Vicstah - thanks for the info, I'll pass it on. She moved here from out of town and had ONE day to find a place and ended up at The Villages. She initially thought it was way too expensive and was counting the days until the lease was up, but she has done a 180 in the last month.

Sidelinedbuyer: You don't get to pick where you get your parking spot, all of them are assigned. They way to get around that problem (if there is someone else with you in the car, of course), is to drop them off where the entrance to your building is and then drive to park in the structure. You can also park on the street and then walk with your kids to your place, but I think it is limited to 1 hour, so you'd still have to park.

Villagepeople: howdy neighbor :)

My wife and I (and our dog of course:) moved from the midwest at the beginning of December. The Village is the last apartment community we looked at, and we actually almost did not end up moving here because we thought the price was high. After we ran the numbers, figuring in all of the amenities, the move in discounts, and quality, we found that you honestly cannot beat the Village as far as apartment living in Irvine.

We live in the Cambria building and have been very impressed with the entire experience. The only thing that kind of stinks is that we live above the basketball courts, and people do not always observe the court "quiet hours". Seriously... shooting hoops close to midnight? Has really only happened a couple of times, and the security staff has shut it down both times.

Does anyone know if there are regular basketball pickup games at the courts at the Village Apartments? My husband is looking for a place to play basketball on Saturday mornings.
