USC tops UCLA in the most recent U.S. News and World Report

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I was kind of surprised the acceptance rates are as high as they are, until I looked at the cost of tuition at some of these schools.  Outrageous!  My kids will either have large scholarships or they will be applying to steel mills and shipyards when they near graduation.

This is really surprising, but then, I'm way out of college so I don't really follow the rankings anymore.

Back when I was applying to colleges, USC had a reputation of having a good alumni network, but easy to get into and not very academic. University of Spoiled Children and all that.

I'm glad to see my alma mater still tops USC. :)

Unless kids get a scholarship or grant to pay for the super high private school tuition costs, they should go to the best UC school they can get into (excluding if they can get into the top 10 schools).  I can't image having student loans of over $100k coming out of college (grad school, yes).

USC went about doing this in a much smarter way. For incoming freshmen USC places a very high demand on scores to boost the school standing. Endowment is key. However USC has the most relax acceptance rate for transferring students from Jr. Colleges. The major criteria USC looks at is the affluent zipcode of the applicants. I got this info from a former Vice President of Finance at USC.

i was talking about this topic just recently with someone. how it is much easier for transfers to get in vs freshman. i guess ill be sending my gardener kids to a JC for two years since they wont be able to compete with all these asians. then they can transfer in as juniors, i guess the upside is ill save some serious dough and i can cut back on the number houses i manicure on the weekends.

Transfer student acceptance rate is very high. Trust fund kids transferring to USC is an automatic in regardless of grades. USC found a way to cater to the dumb wealthy kids as well as addressing the highly selective standing to satisfy the ego of affluent parents. This is a win win formula.
