Upgrading interior cabinets to Maple Melamine

I checked with the desing studio.  They informed me that the basic cabinets are still wood (not metal) so we are passing on the upgrade. 

i think they should really do a better job of showing clients the basic package.

Wha? Upgrading to Melamine?  Melamine is a notch below formica, it's what makes Ikea, well Ikea.  You mean you have pay for a melamine cabinets?  A neighbor has Thermofoil, and several of the most used drawers are starting to peel.  They also have changed color over the years and they brought back some sample cabinets doors from a supplier nothing matches the current patina.  It's not horrible, but would be noticeable.

The melamine nytransplant was talking about is upgrading the only inside of the cabinet from basic white melamine to the color/stain that matches the exterior of the cabinets.  The material should be same.

Thermofoil was a different discussion about the cabinet itself.
