TUSD - Hicks Canyon Elementary

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I am curious about, and interested in hearing, reports about, responses to, and experiences with the issue of, in general, the TUSD and specifically Hicks Canyon Elementary School.

Without going into identifying specifics, we have a child who is at Hicks, and while some aspects of the experience are of good quality, e.g., we have had good, empathetic, qualified and effective teachers, some aspects are a real turnoff, e.g., arrogant, pushy, condescending administrators and support personnel who are not very competent. The condescending administrators are bad enough and can be almost a daily challenge, but the lack of quality in support personnel have forced us, the parents, to have to step and take charge of situations and complete tasks that are the responsibility of school personnel.

We are on the fence about keeping our child in the TUSD or moving to a private school where, based on our experiences with doing background research and meeting with school personnel, the issues I've mentioned above are not present.

The various schools in TUSD are absolutely excellent, if your child fits the mold the school and local team has of a high performing child in that school.

That mold is also heavily influenced by the involved parent group in the school and has, IMHO, a very strong sense of classism and privilege.

Sweep, sweep, sweep.... Nothing to see here.

Irvine elementary school staffer accused of asking for a back massage from third graders

Irvine police Monday continued to investigate an incident at Hicks Canyon Elementary School after a staff member allegedly asked 9-year-old girls to massage his back.

While police and district officials declined to provide details, a Reddit user who claims to be the parent of one of the girls said the staffer was on paid leave for a couple of days after the report was filed, but he was back on campus.
