Trip to Paris

I know you've been given a lot of advice and I haven't read through the whole thread so I will briefly give you my number one advice for planning an overseas vacation. This comes from years of traveling with my husband and one trip that we did everything wrong. So here it goes:

Don't plan your trip.

Get advice, have a hotel or place to stay for the first night (or maybe 2). Wing it. You'll get better prices, have more fun and the whole experience will be much more exciting. We plan our lives, we know where will be at each hour of the day when we are at home. There's no reason to do that on vacation.

And P.S. You can get a great price for The Grand Hotel (5 star, super plush) if you book it with one of the little travel shops in the airport when you get off the plane in wonderful Amsterdam. Have fun ;-P
