NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
This is what happens when moron bureaucrats are in charge who have NO understanding of market dynamics…then they are “stunned” when people and businesses adjust to their edicts in a way that nullifies the intent of their policy…often the victims of foolish policy are the very people these fools portend to be “uplifting”….😡😂😂😂👎🏽

Fast food workers blindsided by sudden closure of Fosters Freeze in Lemoore

LEMOORE, Calif. (FOX26) — Employees at Fosters Freeze in Lemoore are out of a job.

Navarro says the owner, Loren Wright, had previously told her the $20 minimum wage increase for fast food workers was going to be really hard on him.

She said he did not tell her or any of the other workers that he was going to close.

"I walked in, and he had just immediately said you guys are out of a job; I'm sorry," said Boado.

Assistant General Manager Monica Navarro says she was called Monday morning by her boss who was at the restaurant to open, only to find the locks were being changed.

· But a year later Measure ULA saw luxury house sales drop by nearly 70 per cent

· Realtor Hooman Ghaffari blasted the move 'a sham' that has sales 'unworkable'

Lyft and Uber to cease operations in Minneapolis after new minimum wage law

New YorkCNN —

Lyft and Uber will stop offering services in Minneapolis on May 1 after the city council overrode the mayor’s veto of a minimum wage for rideshare drivers.

The city council on Thursday voted 10-3 in favor of the override, allowing rideshare drivers to be paid the local minimum wage of $15.57 an hour.

Lyft said in a statement the bill was “deeply flawed” and that the ordinance makes its “operations unsustainable.”

Working as Meituan delivery driver (on e-bikes or scooters) in Tier 1 city (Beijing), I think they should earn ~4,000 RMB (part time) to 8,000 RMB (working 996) per month each with fairly low tax rate. With 5 family members working and living in cheaper outskirt area of city (5th ring?), they can potentially save significant % of their income. Crazy workaholics could earn more (https://radii.co/article/food-delivery-driver-salary) but those are exceptions.

If they were in the US and working as Uber drivers, I think the drivers typically make $3,000 to $3,500/month in LA working full time (less for Uber eats & part timers). But that's not counting cost and insurance, depreciation and maintenance expense for the car. If you had 5 family members working you'd need 5 cars. The family should be able to afford rent (~$3,000), but buying a home would be tough today.

What is it with targeting specific industries with a minimum wage? Fast food... ride share...

In the old days, at least the minimum wage was broadly applied to all workers.

Yeah, I'm in favor of one minimum wage. I'd also like to see that applied to waitstaff at restaurants.
We need to simplify all of these crazy laws that add never ending complexity. But I guess bureaucracy in our institutions only serves to increase that bureaucracy. Bureaucracy's gonna bureaucracy?

MOD Pizza's out as well...

Part of the last few paragraphs of the article are about a 29 year old driver who was let go by Pizza Hut in February. He had worked for The Hut for "a decade". How someone can survive working as a pizza delivery driver in So Cal, stagnating for over 10 years, is a mystery unto itself. Drivers (Fast Food work, etc.) are meant to be starter jobs not careers.

Happening before our eyes…as we scare our best earners out of state and continue to accept as many takers as we can get ..there are fewer of us left to pay the tab…but answers coming from the same morons will only hasten our (that’s us on this boards) demise…these fool thinks more government control is the answer and I don’t see anyone opposing continuing implementation of what doesn’t work….just like the misplaced $20 minimum wage this type of government over-lording of the free market is doomed!😡😡😡🤷🏽‍♂️🦄🌈

Why California Is Shrinking and Sinking, and How To Reverse It

California’s population has shrunk for three consecutive years while 42 other states have grown. A shrinking population is a sign of economic distress. Homeowners may feel immune to rental costs. However, as the shrinking continues, the sinking follows. As the population shrinks, the need ds of the remaining population increase while the tax base decreases. California is staring down the barrel of a $73 billion budget deficit. This is a prescription for disaster. If we continue down this path, the quality of life will deteriorate for both renters and homeowners. This November, California has a golden opportunity to strike a blow against billionaire corporate landlords and extreme income inequality, and in favor of Justice for Renters. The 2024 ballot initiative would allow localities to cap rental increases, lowering the cost of living across the state and reversing the housing affordability and homelessness crises that are ravaging our communities.

Thank you Boy King…you effectively destroyed the very people you thought you were helping…You have succeeded in making EVERYONE in our state worse off…Mission accomplished!😡👎🏽😡😡

Barely A Month Old, California’s $20-Hr. Fast-Food Minimum Wage Is Already An Economic Disaster

California Democrats who pushed through the state’s punitive new minimum wage must be feeling mighty proud about now. Not only are fast-food joints closing or replacing low-end employees with overseas workers and robots, now the law is costing the very people it was supposed to help while decimating consumers’ wallets. Well done!

The $20-an-hour wage floor foisted on California’s fast-food restaurants, dubbed with the innocent-sounding moniker Assembly Bill 257, was signed into law last fall. It didn’t take long to become a disaster.

Hoover Institution senior fellow and economist Lee Ohanian showed just how quickly bad policies can wreck an economy. And the damage was done even before the law officially went into effect a month ago today.

“Between last fall and January,” Ohanian wrote, “California fast-food restaurants cut about 9,500 jobs, representing a 1.3% change from September 2023.” By comparison, overall employment in California during that period fell just 0.2%.

Maybe not everyone. I bet the family-run Mexican place that my wife and I are now frequenting instead of Chipotle are happily benefiting from the new law. I say good for them.

Healthcare is also getting bruised. Newsom delaying raises for disability workers, many of whom can now make more money working in fast food.

We are led by Morons…$1.00 increase in gas over the next two years…thanks.🤦🏽‍♂️😡😡🦄🌈

California's 'secret' 50-cent gas tax hike coming in the next two years

In September, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the state's primary environmental regulator, reported gas prices will rise next year by about 50 cents a gallon and every year thereafter to aid in clean air efforts. The price increase does not include the existing gas tax in the state.

The report foresees gasoline price increases due to the Low Carbon Fuel Standard reforms that were created in 2007, likely rising by 47 cents next year and 52 cents by 2026. Diesel prices could climb by 59 cents this year and 66 cents in two years. Long-term projections suggest gasoline could surge by $1.15 and diesel by $1.50 per gallon from 2031 to 2046, with jet fuel increasing by $1.21.

Rubio’s closing 48 locations due to ‘rising cost of doing business’

Rubio’s Coastal Grill, the Carlsbad-based restaurant chain famous for its fish tacos, is shuttering 48 “underperforming” California locations in the latest blow to the state’s fast-food industry.

In a statement to KTLA, a Rubio’s spokesperson cited the “rising cost of doing business” and the “current business climate” in California as key factors.

QSRs cut 10,000 jobs owing to California’s $20 minimum wage law

Major chains have hiked prices and others have reduced employee hours and are speeding up transition towards automation.

CABIA president and founder Tom Manzo was quoted by FOX Business as saying: “California businesses have been under total attack and total assault for years. It’s just another law that puts businesses in further jeopardy.

“Governments, unlike private businesses, have options when they run out of money”.

He went on to describe officials as “living in a ‘fantasyland’ by thinking that drastic wage increases will help workers or businesses.

“You can only raise prices so much. And you’re seeing it. People are not going to pay $20 for a Big Mac. It’s not going to happen.”

California’s In-N-Out Burger Prices Jump as $20 Minimum Wage Chokes Fast Food Businesses

Double-Double California-Style sales tax

An In-N-Out Double-Double with fries and a drink now averages over $10 in California – before tax. The latest price increase is because of the state’s new $20-per-hour minimum wage for fast food workers. Concurrently, an increasing number of cities are considering raising their sales tax. So here’s what this icon of California tells us about the state of California.

A meal at In-N-Out is now $10.45 for a Double-Double, $8.65 for a cheeseburger, and $8.15 for a hamburger outside the headquarters in Irvine.

California’s sales tax is currently 7.25% and has generally increased after every recession. This is split with 6.00% for the state and 1.25% for local governments. Additionally there are special sales tax districts.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s most urban counties passed an additional 0.5% transportation tax for roads and renewed them in the 2000s for a total rate of 7.75%. Many cities in rural counties matched this. Since the 2008 recession, municipal sales taxes have become more common, even when the economy is good.

In April, In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder said she fought in company meetings to keep costs low as fast food prices in California rose due to inflation and the updated minimum wage that went into effect on April 1 after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed it in 2023, the New York Post reported.

“I was sitting in VP meetings going toe-to-toe saying ‘we can’t raise the prices that much, we can’t.’ I felt such an obligation to look out for our customer,” she stated.

Wasn't In-n-Out already paying that wage prior?
The article explicitly says the increase is due to food prices.

Seems that you and the OCreg are both just talking your (blame) game, not drawing conclusions based on data.

Food prices are up right along with the artificial wage inflation caused by increased minimum wage. The fact this company is California based isolates that problem. The increased price is only in their California stores.🤦🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️😡

Ok, they just happened to raise prices the day the minimum wage hike went into effect.

SpaceX to move from Hawthorne to Texas, Elon Musk announces

Musk, who also announced X will move from San Francisco to Austin, said a new law signed Monday by California Gov. Gavin Newsom that bars school districts from requiring staff to notify parents of their child’s gender identification change was the “final straw.”
