Time Banking is a great tool to buy and exchange goods and services without the use of the almighty US Dollar.  Those of you like Panda who thinks the dollar will eventually crash and burn will like this idea.  Imagine a local community living completely off the dollar and still be able to thrive.  Imagine a neighborhood where money looses it?s powers over relationships!

Roundcorners... I recall bringing a gift for your son.  A book that I read to my sons about twice a week: The Giving Tree.

These proposals make me think I'd like to bring you another book.  It's titled Animal Farm.

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

I was afraid to log-in today... thanks for the response IR2, your wisdom yet again is invaluable...  the first video was really inspiring, but the more I watch the 2nd video, the crazier it all seems.

There are a lot that I still have to research and people I need to talk to.. mainly the people who just release the Ballona LETS in Westchester; I don't doubt the intentions but you are right with any amount of power and influence does have the potential to be corruptible...http://transitionlahub.blogspot.com/2010/01/trading-without-cash-lets-system.html

I was saving this next to last bit of the communal tools I'd found...  We certainly live in a crazy, broken down world... The serenity prayer came to me this morning... whenever I find myself on some great idealistic mission.  We'll see where this goes; I'll keep updating on what I find and learn.

Some people like me who have an overly realistic view of human suffering, ecological destruction and social injustice (especially the pain I have cause to others) are always looking for ways to better humanity...  That is probably why I'm so drawn to Irvine in what I can sometimes be self-delude to think that we live in utopia where no suffering and harm exist..

I have to except that we might not ever find the perfect neighborhood this side of heaven, no matter what your address says...

Actually, there was a system like this in place for businesses that may still be in place today but I forget what it's called.

Companies basically trade services for other services. I remember a place I used to contract for did this and the owner showed me a book of the different participants and he asked me that if I ever wanted something like that, we could barter my contracting time for it.

Very interesting concept... which is somewhat practiced among friends. I have a friend who gives me legal advice and in turn I help him with computer related issues... hehe.
