"Unlike the 2010 land gift, though, which largely had already been set aside as protected open space, the acreage the Irvine Co. is now handing over was essentially shovel-ready for 5,500 homes.
'We could go down and pull a permit today and build', said Daniel Miller, Irvine Co. senior vice president of entitlement and public affairs."

Did you even look at the zoning map?
Joe61022 said:So you're saying there's not zoning for 5,000 houses, TIC is lying, and the LA Times didn't fact check their article?

What zoning map are you looking at? Seems like City of Irvine because 1.4 is an Irvine zoning designation. If you read the article, you'd see that 1,400 acres is in the city of Orange and 1,100 acres is in Anaheim Hills.
Here's a link with a map of the land they're donating:

As you can see, the land in Orange is east of the 241 off Santiago Canyon Road and the land in Anaheim Hills is next to the 241/91 interchange.

It's near Orange not in Orange.
Irvine Company today announced a major land gift of 2,500 acres near Orange and Anaheim Hills
And come on, search. The same zoning in north Irvine extends into that area.

How about you look at a map that isn't 9 years old? "This map is for informational purposes only for unincorporated areas of Orange County established as of May 16, 2005. Zoning classifications are current through May 24, 2005."
"And come on, search." You'd find that the land "near Orange" is now in Orange or within the sphere of influence (meaning if it did get developed, Orange would likely annex it into the city). http://www.cityoforange.org/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?blobid=9420
Also, the map you linked to shows that the land being donated is "A1" = General Agricultural, NOT "OS" = Open Space.

Do you have a newer map? If not what's your point? I showed you what the zoning is and you still have yet to show otherwise.
