The Yes on 8 guys are at it doing telemarketing

While I fully understand that the plural of anecdote is not data, perhaps this "slice of life" will be of use to those with the "but what about the children" concerns:

From the blog "Unqualified Offerings:"

From the out of the mouths of babes file, while viewing Youtubes on [Andrew Sullivan]’s site.

The Littlest Offering, Age 8: What’s that about?

Me: It’s a commercial opposing Proposition 8 in California, which would make it illegal for gay people to get married.

TLO: But that’s an insult to Mary Gay and Vicki! (My stepsisters-in-law in Illinois.)

Me: Yes. And Uncle Tony. (My brother-in-law’s brother in McLean.)

TLO: And Bailey’s dads! (Bailey is a fellow Brownie.)

Me: Yeah, them too.

Now, I would never tell you that eight-year-olds possess some inherent wisdom that grownups must always heed, but whenever I hear people complain that a problem with gay marriage is, us regular people just can’t explain it to our kids, I have to ask, what’s so complicated about the concept? Also, my daughter does recognize the human costs of marriage restriction on people she knows and loves.

Someone had a great blog item the other day that I wish I could find, where a real "how do you explain?" went roughly like

Child: What’s gay marriage?

Parent: Most boys have girlfriends and most girls have boyfriends, but some boys have boyfriends and some girls have girlfriends, and sometimes they want to get married.

Child: Oh. Thanks.

Child: Can we watch TV?

Thanks Graph....I would love to have some honorary nieces and nephews....now, get cracking!

:gulp:

Hey! Settle down there...those are expensive little buggers.

Anyway, I do agree with Graph.

And I think about my aunt, who was so sad that she wouldn't get to plan a wedding for her gay daughter. Well, maybe someday she can afterall.
