And I do mean "the" NeoCon.

His name was Irving Kristol, and you can read all about him in the WSJ as his death allows them to publish his obituary in their opinion pages.

I'm not going to pay an homage to the man. I think he was an intellectual opportunist who twisted current events to meet the needs of whatever philosophy he was pushing at the time. He was an advocate of socialism, until he wasn't. He was a liberal, until he wasn't. He then tried being a moderate... until he wasn't. He pushed political philosophy like Cal Worthington pushed cars, but his schtick was tailored for the college crowd. Eventually, his slow drift to the right put him on the path to a new political label: neoconservative. As a Conservative, I abhor what Kristol represented. In an effort to stay relevant (and employed) he co-opted facets of the the Conservative movement led by Goldwater, Reagan, and Buckley, Jr. and gave us Wolfowitz, Cheney, both Bush's, and his son... William Kristol.

I am marking his passing only because I hope his political belief system dies with him. It's done far more damage to this country than he could have envisioned, and in the process stained the Conservative reputation.
