The Meaning of Work

In another thread I promised <a href="http://www.irvinehousingblog.com/forums/viewthread/3485/#77024"><strong>here </strong></a>to pass on a particular message from one of my former MBA classes that I found valuable. It took several email requests and a phone call, but I finally got a positive response. Each link is about 50 minutes long. Whether you work as an owner, a manager, or a line worker, I think the presentation could be worth your time invested and might prod you to consider some very good questions.

<strong>I have hope that this message will find the ears that need to hear it.</strong>

Persistence pays off. I'll get you other information later, but these are the three links to the streaming videos. Let me know if you have any difficulty with them...CD</blockquote>

Good luck, and enjoy.

Deuce, Thanks so much for sharing. Just finished watching the first vid, and will catch the other 2 tomorrow. It's a good framework for some thoughts I've had for a few years now, and fills in some gaps. Wish all profs were that good!

[quote author="Astute Observer" date=1226329928]I have problem running the MicroSoft software in the link, will try to do it again later in a differently computer. They better be good, or I will send you a bill for this! ;)</blockquote>

<em>How about if we trade bills and call it even?</em>

Some more background on this - it was a business ethics course (a realtor espousing ethics posts - the irony, yes, I understand)

<strong>What is it?</strong>

It is a three-part lecture on the nature of finding/recognizing fulfilling work. Not quite Tony Robbins, and not quite "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9ya9BXClRw">The Last Lecture</a>" but something in the same vein.

The presentation has taken bits from Hume, Kant, and even Alice in Wonderland. I found it a good context to think about not only how to help myself but also specifically, and more importantly, to help create an environment for others to do the same. I was spurred to post this in response to some other postings of dwellers here questioning their pay raises, asking whether they are in the right career path, and similar self-reflections.

Thanks to those that have responded. I'm glad you've found it valuable, too.

[quote author="SoCal78" date=1226366301]Thanks for posting that. I am interested in hearing it. But at 150 minutes... does it come with Cliff Notes??</blockquote>

<em>Emperor Joseph II: Your work is ingenious. It's quality work. And there are simply too many notes, that's all. Just cut a few and it will be perfect.

Mozart: Which few did you have in mind, Majesty? </em>

- <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086879/">Amadeus</a>

The only people who are "normal" are the ones you don't know well-enough (yet). - IR2
