Thanks for your rant. Everything you mentioned is spot on IMO. I think much of what you mentioned I.E. eating alone and talking to strangers is considerably worse here in OC and SoCal. When I lived in the Bay Area I had no problems meeting people and within the first three months I had several friends. Since moving back and being back for 8 years I have yet to meet as many people as I did up there in 1 year. I don't know why exactly it is that way here but it is. I also had no problem going to a restaurant alone there but here I am reluctant because of that stigma that is attached to it.

When I went to Chicago for the first time it was the weekend before Christmas. We went to magnificent mile because you have to if you have never been. I was shocked when the street packed with people bumping into because it was so crowded would smile and say merry Christmas to you. What an interesting and friendly concept. I have been to South Coast several times during the holidays and never once has anyone other than Santa Claus say merry Christmas to me.

BTW I'm the guy who will talk to people in the grocery line. I make it worse when I can tell the person doesn't want to talk to some random person by continuing to talk to them. I mean lighten up people.

momopi - Wow! If I wasn't married and male, I would date you. How old are you? I know of a couple of single woman, but they are both in their forties.

Gosh, I hope you are kidding. Otherwise, how in the world do you get from my post that I think there is anything wrong with women in their 40s, exactly or generally? The only reason I mentioned their age is because I have no idea if momopi is in his twenties or seventies and most single people prefer to hook up with those they consider age appropriate. For verification, please check you own initial post on in this thread.

The most intelligent, beautiful, kind, supportive, giving, warm, wise, insightful, wonderful woman I know is in her forties. You want to guess who she is?

I admire people who can regconize and acknowledge the positive attributes of their SO. Do you also tell your wife how you feel about her, on a regular basis?
 
Great advice, I really need to work on that myself. I tend to remind the women I date that before me they were stuck sitting in coach and that as a result of dating me they've now moved up to first class. There's a whole world of difference. Is that what you are referring to about recognizing and acknowledging your positive attributes?
 
Show her how much you really care by taking her to see the Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller. Great movie, saw it this past weekend. It's about a commitment phobic guy who finally decides to get off the fence and take the marriage plunge.
 
I say go do something that you like, I went to do ballroom dancing. But I must say i met my wife at church.

On a side note:

Yes i do ballroom and i'm a highly educated (Enginerd!)-BS/MS/Phd is taking forever! - i'm on the low and slow road) and while I don't make over 500k a year, i do have decent equity in real estate, but no women ever look at me.... Why because i'm nice, kind, not very flashy and like to remain understated. It makes me VERY happy to love and care for my wife....

To paraphrase Trooper: friends don't let friends post while head is spinning on a NyQuil high. Ugh, my nose hurts but at least my good humor is back. Sorry about letting the evil side of ISM slip out recently. Usually I keep her well caged.

You get a pass due to the cold, but damn suit up and get in the game girl. This thread is on life support. All the married guys carpet bombed it with proclamations of love for the special women in their lives. Frankly, I wasn't buying it but they were earning a lot of sympathy points from the females here. For a singles club thread it was getting out of hand, my estrogen levels were even starting to rise.
 
Went to another good spot the other day after work. French 75 on Jamboree. Seems like a bunch of 30-40 year old office types like this place. Not the typical Cougar bar. Its a nice place and has a great happy hour 4-7. Freindly crowd and a little nicer than just going over to Opah`s next door. Only problem is the rich happy hour food will destroy any dieting intentions. 1/2 price on Champagne Cocktails. Yummy.
