If you appreciate desert towers made with sugar and sprinkled with sugar strands, this is the place for you!

The tartar appetizer below is tasty and goes great with bread!

I like the pork with mozzarella and sand dabs here. This is a fine dining place and not everyone will appreciate the food. If you dine there and don't like the food for any reason, ask to speak with the owner Bruno or their executive chef immediately. They'll do their best to make you happy.

That looks truly strange, but I guess interesting enough that I might give it a try. The last picture looks like whatever that is that is being served, is being served in a restroom. Just weird.

The decor is a bit Versace for my taste, but the food and service are (for the most part) top notch there. I had one so-so service experience, but it was a busy day. Sign up for their e-mail list and you will get info on specials and special dinners. I think they are doing a three or four course dinner for $39(?) on Fridays. The economic downturn hit them hard, and it's not as busy as it used to be. Like Momo, I like the sand dabs. Also like the short ribs and their pasta e fagioli soup. Along with the dessert sampler, they also offer an appetizer sampler that is equally impressive with presentation. If you go, ask to see Bruno's cookbook. It gives a whole new meaning to the term food porn.

I received an e-mail from the Anaheim White House Restaurant today:

BK and I went there for lunch once. I was sort of meh about it. I remember the food being pretty good, but I felt like I was at a wedding. A really pretentious.. overpriced.. tacky wedding. It was like the whole interior had been hosed down with damask. I dont recall the food so much as I do the waiter standing over our table.. and the fact that there was cloth, ruching, table cloths etc.. everywhere.

The service was great, to the point of being distracting, and certainly its "interesting" but its not somewhere Id really want to visit again.

To be honest, places like Auberge du Soleil in Napa have ruined me for what OC considers fine dining.

[quote author="almon" date=1249284135]they all LOOK great...how did they taste compared to bistango, bayside, maestro, etc.?</blockquote>

Taste is a matter of personal preference. I love the Tartare di Tonno there, and would eat it with several bread rolls. The sand dabs aren't covered in heavy sauce so you can actually appreciate the fish for what it is. You'll find dishes that you love and some that you won't care for.

The important thing to remember is that, at a fine dining restaurant, you're paying a premium for the service. So if you don't like anything, summon the waiter immediately and ask to speak with the owner or chef. It's their job to make YOU happy. So if your dish arrives and you think it's "meh", just tell them that you don't like it and have them bring you something else. You don't need to be polite about it.

We never frequent chain restaurants and especially Irvine. We are known to drive 50 miles one way or recently 280 miles one way just to have a meal that is satisfying.

grace, bk,

you both should be happy to know that the napa rose at the disney grand californian is run by andrew sutton, who was the exec chef at auberge du soleil for 7 yrs. make a reservation for the counter next to the kitchen and you will get to watch andrew work the pass. he'll come by and explain each dish personally.
