Summer is almost here, time to replace the grill...

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
OEM around $70 I think.  Cheaper, better grill grates on eBay tho.  I think once you take the Weber for a test drive, you'll be hooked.  Great CS too.

I dunno, man.  I say buy a Weber Genesis and be done with it, instead of buying a new grill every couple of years.  Better burners, even (well evenish) heat and all around better build quality.  If you do decide to get a nice built-in one day, give the Weber to a relative or friend.  My 2 cents and not even worth that much.
My parents have had theirs for about 13 years, still works like a charm. Mine is pretty new at 2 years of age, but works amazing.  Highly recommend, although you have to be very patient to get them at a slight deal (cause they almost never discount them). I think I got mine like 15% off. Fantastic bbq. Of course, I grill way too much.  Rain or Shine.

Still have my old charcoal weber, which worked like a charm (12+ years old).

Something about stacking charcoal in a pyramid feels so fulfilling. At least I use Matchlite now instead of lighter fluid.

Spur of the moment, kid wants steak for dinner.  We were at Target, decided to give their steak a try.  Never heard of Sutton and Dodge.  Picked the one up top, had the best marbling.  All the steaks in the cold section were bright red.  And some carry best use by dates of Sept 20+!  Tightly sealed so assume they used CO gas under the seal to keep the meat nice and red.  Also question the 'Choice Angus' label.  I don't believe its true USDA Choice.  Not for $6.

Anyways, came home, had to poke a hole in the tight seal to let the gas escape.  Meat didn't have old smell, but I think the gas will get rid of the smell as well.  Feels heavy.  Spread a thin layer of olive oil over it.  And sprinkled a light layer of the good old Montreal Seasoning.  Fired up the grill, scraped the crud off the mangrates, and preheat for a good 10 minutes to make sure everything is burned off.

Cooked the steak about 5 minutes each side and then I flipped it diagonally to get the diamond marks and cooked it for about 3 minutes each side.  Had the burners on low to let the mangrates do the work.  Took the steak off the grill and let it rest partially covered in tin foil.  Got this tip off NHK's 'Cooking with the Chef' show.  Meat will reabsorb most of the liquid that comes out and keeps it juicy.

Rest for about 5-6 minutes.  Kid comes over and devours half the steak.  Turned out a perfect medium well, no blood, perfect pink throughout.  One of the juiciest steaks I've had.

Grilling season is here, got rid of the old grill and in with the new:
http://www.target.com/p/char-broil-2-burner-gas-grill-black/-/A-12943130

It's about $60 now with the 15% store pick up discount and redcard 5%.  Still shows availability in the Irvine area.  Putting it together took some time though, so if you're not Ikea patient, do not get this grill.  2 burners ain't much of course but i got a small family and my mangrates are still holding up.

There's also the 4 burner version here:
http://slickdeals.net/f/7918813-cha...only-free-store-pickup-possibly-100-99-target

If you activate your Amexoffer, this 4 burner grill can be pretty cheap.  Again, factor in the inconvenience of putting this together yourself and decide if its worth the savings.  Tustin Legacy Target has in stock last I checked.  So you can take advantage of the Amex offer directly without buying a giftcard first.

And finally, I splurged on an egg:
http://slickdeals.net/f/7919245-cha...ooker-charcoal-grill-smoker-240-free-shipping

My first Kamado smoker/grill.  This should be fun.  I got it from Target thru ebay for about $209, you can still pick up in store for about $205, closest store is in Santa Ana and I don't know how big this thing is.. as in will this fit in my car big.  Don't mind paying the a few bucks to get it delivered.  The ebay deal is no longer available.  A quarter the price of a BGE, I'm gonna look for some decent Japanese wood charcoal to make some yakitori, brisket, baby backs.. can't wait

Why not get a weber?

I'm looking for business partners to start a grill rental.

With so many disgusting grills in the tiny California backyards, I think people don't mind renting when the season is in and have it hauled away when they are done.

Japanese charcoal is expensive:

Liability issue. Not a good idea

so my wife gave my weber that I had before to my brother when we moved.. He is now building a bbq island so I'm getting the genesis 310 back.  Doesn't have the searing station but I'm ok with that.  Hope he took good care of it.

How's yours?

Your bro is building a BBQ island or is he paying someone to make it?

In the backyard, I haven't used it yet.

Anyone know a good "maintenance"/cleaning company to come out and clean/service a built in for a reasonable price?

I wonder how those Korean BBQ places clean their cooking grates. They always look fresh and clean. Does anyone know their trick?

Ok, got my kamado together.. maverick thermometer ready.. kingsford competition briquettes ready... weber 22" replacement grill ready... pizza stone ready... applewood chips ready....just need to decide what to smoke first.
