Student Driver stickers

For several years now, I've noticed a large number of Student Driver stickers on cars with drivers that don't seem like students. What's going on with this practice? Growing up, I remember seeing those stickers only on cars that were used by driving schools for teaching kids.
 
Maybe parents who have new drivers and just forget to take the magnets off when the kid isn't driving. You can order them on Amazon.

We used these when my son had his permit, and a couple times, we just forgot to take them off after he was done driving.
