Straw poll on gay marriage

I'm just curious to see which way people are leaning on this topic. California voters will be able to cast a ballot either for, or against, gay marriage in November.....Proposition 8. The ballot title reads, "Eliminates Right of Same-sex Couples to Marry".

Basic Wikipedia Prop 8 info here.

Obviously, it has a no vote from me.....

Just had my 6th wedding anniversary yesterday, and I'm pretty sure our marriage would have survived those 6 years just the same if gays had been allowed to marry during that period. Live and let live. No for me.

I don't have any idea how to do that T!m, but it's duly noted. Thanks.

That's one thing I'm concerned about....that ppl will vote YES for Prop 8, confused that they are actually voting against gay marriage.

I laugh at people who have argued for this.

One guy I know who voted for this is such a hypocrite.... He said it would destroy marriage.... I asked him if gays destroyed his first 2 marriage? Or was it your drinking and sleeping around?

If two people want to enmesh their lives (and ALL the legal ramifications...) more power to them. Just be aware that most marriages fail and it takes work. Some of the best work you'll ever do... but work nontheless.

Playing devil's advocate here ...

If in ancient times, the purpose of marriage was to establish for the community which two people were paired up, and that any children they produce together had to be supported by them ...

... well, with some gay couples adopting kids and various partners wanting right to see and support the kid even if they have no biological connection then ...

... well, they ought to be married by that ancient definition

And from what I am reading Prop 8 will go down in Defeat.

For god sakes. A couple Generations ago a couple of Mixed Race could not

get legally married in some states. This is the 21st Century.

Lets start acting like it.

I wish the xtians had also included a ban on marriages between a man and a woman where the woman was older than, say, 45 years since those won't produce children either.

[quote author="T!m" date=1220413200]I clicked the wrong button. :grrr: Take one of the Yes's and move it to the No's.

That's exactly what the authors of this bill are hoping for.

tmare, you are correct. The last time this was voted on (Pete Knight's Prop 22) the verbiage of the thing was so confusing, many ppl voted the wrong way. I guess they learned it from exit poll data.

It warms my heart to see (so far) that the overwhelming majority of those that chose to vote, are for gay marriage. Thank you !

And if anyone wants to read up on plenty of discussion about this topic, may I direct your attention to this IHB thread.

So, to re-iterate.....if you approve of gay marriage, you want to vote NO on Prop. 8 .

I loved this book as a child....

Ellen and Portia's wedding was beautiful. George Takai's, not so much. But that wouldn't be fair now would it. Everyone's entitled to the pursuit of happiness no matter how beautiful or gross it may seem to everyone.

Troop, we had someone in our neighborhood knocking on people's doors explaining this confusion. They weren't there to change people's votes, they just wanted to make sure people understood the wording on Prop 8.

If you are FOR Gay Marriage VOTE NO.

I think as time goes on the whole trying to ban same sex marriage thing will go away since its mainly the older generation that is against it.

I'm sorry, religious extremists... I'm sorry, Republicans.

I want to know what the anti-christ's(Dick Cheney) take on gay marriage is?

Further to that, I saw my first "Yes on 8" bumper sticker this morning. It was plastered to the back of a ginormous grandpa'd out Toyota Avalon. The driver and his two passengers had hair so gray it was almost blue. I would give all three of them about a 50/50 shot of actually making it November to cast their yes vote.

LOL CK !!!

This probably belongs in the Politics thread, but I thought I'd post it here as well:

McCain Chief of Staff Outed

yup, we're everywhere....even in the Republican party (which baffles the sh*t out of me), well....at least until gay rights are a non-issue....then I'll probably change to independent.

And Dick Cheney has actually been pleasantly positive about his lesbian daughter. When he was sworn in, Mary and her partner Heather were side by side with the rest of the family. They have also commented on how happy they are to be grandparents again....Mary had a baby last year.
