Stolen bicycle at IAC

Hey Guys,

Did anybody had this happened to them at IAC.

My two bicycle was stolen from IAC san remo villa last sunday :(

This is very strange for me, I thought Irvine was safe place specially close to

civic center area since police station is close by.

It was locked but not with the station, I just locked two bikes each other with chain.

Anyways if anybody living there be careful keep your bikes locked with station.



Should I report to police? because once I had my laundry stolen at IAC San Paulo apartments

and I called police they took my info and what was in clothes and how much it was worth

but that's about it so this time I am thinking should I waste time to call police and report for bike.

Probably should report to cops. This happened to friend of mine too. Cops were able to recover it from serial no (yes he had saved all the warranty card etc). Cops stopped some suspicious characters on bicycle... I wonder how suspicious do you have to look- on a bicycle - to be stopped by the cops?

I don't know but it seems that about 1/5 of the days I've been driving to Irvine this summer (5 days a week) someone is being arrested, it doesn't seem to be very difficult to get police attention in Irvine. I've seen it twice this week so far on Yale. Daily I have seen at least 4 IPD cars and at least one person getting ticketed per day. They seem to run a pretty tight ship, I'm sure they'd be willing to pull over random bicyclists in their search for your bike %-P. Hell, they may even start random searches of people exiting your laundry room in search of your missing clothes.

You should report it, but the chance of get the bike back is pretty small, maybe 10% at the most if you have the serial number. They guys/gals just drive around your neighborhood with a truck, and when they see your bike is not tie to anything, it is just very easy to left both of them up, walk to the parking lot, and put them on the truck bed. Usually can get around 20 bikes by driving around UCI campus early morning. Not bad for an hour of work. Check out my craigslist listings.
 
yeah, one of my bikes the police returned (i dont know how they found it), the other one I found on the sidewalk a few miles from home, and the other one just vanished. Don't take Irvine's safety reputation for granted. I don't.
