Congrats BV!! It will change your life for the better every day.
Congrats! Be smart and send him to a UC school like UCLA or Berkeley for his undergrad studies and then off to USC for grad school.BlackVault CM said:WINEX said:usctrojanman29 said:Once this smoke about the bailout and bad bank/good bank fades we go lower, I think we will make new lows in the Fall when people realize that the recovery isn't coming in the second half of 2009 or even in early 2010.BlackVault CM said:Liquidation complete. 95% cash, 5% puts as of.....10 min ago. Buy the rumor, sell the news. Until the details of Good Bank/Bad Bank are announced, I believe that the financial sector goes higher. Once the details are announced, that changes. Of course that change of course can be pretty violent if nationalization involves a wipeout of the common stock.
If you are going to play this one, I recommend getting out before the close of market on Friday. Possibly sooner.
Exactly. The market ralied the past few days on the anticipation of the bill. My thought is...is this it? Seemed like it rallied more than it really did. We are still at low 8Ks. What happens when bears come back again? Do we retest 7.5 and head to 7? I think so.
The odds of DOW going to 9K is much worse than it going to 7K. So I don't think I'm risking much by liquidating my position. Also, instead of shorting and risking capital. I bought puts. 5% in puts gives me almost as much leverage as going 95% cash. If I'm wrong...I lose 5%. If I'm right...I gain another new Benz...maybe a boat...yeah I always wanted a boat. Then again...I'll go back to being cheap old me...and simply re-invest it.
Wait..damn it...forgot. It will go to my sons college fund. It's a boy btw. YEEEEHAAAW!

Congrats on the boy
Make sure you send him to USC.
That’s where all the high earning, uber achievers go.
Where do I send the gift.
Are you registered at Babies R’Us under Mr. & Mrs. B.Vault?

PANDA said:By the way, forget USC or any UC schools. Make sure you enroll him in the Wharton School of Finance.
Your educational history should be listed in reverse chronological order, including the name of the institution, the specific college or school, city and state. Please note that the Wharton School is listed as The Wharton School (not the School of Business). Include your degree, date, and intended concentration(s). All Wharton students receive a Bachelor of Science in Economics (BS) degree. All dual degrees and/or dual concentrations should be highlighted and emphasized by noting University of Pennsylvania, both colleges or schools, and both degrees with Wharton concentration and major from other school.

I hope you made a typo here. The April 16 calls closed yesterday at $1.40 and today they have traded at $1-$1.26. I hope for you it was a typo, and I am sure that it is. Now... I'm thinking about buying at $1 myself.

How anybody can see that as a positive is beyond me.blackvault_cm said:awgee said:blackvault_cm said:Fed Cut rates...as expected. I bet market will start going south from here and maybe retest 7500. The fed fired its last bullet. Lets face it, each bullet before missed anyways. It was just a psychological way to try and put some confidence in the market.
I wonder if market will start thinking and say...where do we go next? There are no more rate cuts. Just a possible scenario to think about.
There are more ways to print money than just lowering the fed funds rate, but I am confused. To me, lowering the fed funds rate to 0.25% is a sign of desperation and panic. Why aren't investors reading it the same?
It always happens like that. Market almost always rallies on Fed cuts even though they already knew it was coming so its somewhat baked in. It's just a psychological thing. You see it all the time, thats why I bought back my dec. calls to close out my positions before it was officially cut.
Then at the end of today I wrote another set of calls on CSCO, AA and XOM for Jan. I did 75% of the calls at the money to lock in about 10% return for the month. The other 25% I'll decide on later. If the market goes south immediately, i'll pass on writing them. If the market goes up another couple hundred pts, I'll use my other 25% and lock in an even better return.
But imo, people will wake up and say "oh sh%^" that was their last bullet...what if it doesn't work? And yes...they are panicked. (Fed) I think its only a matter of time before ppl realize.
Thats just my hunch, I could be dead wrong...so thats why I'm not going all out and buying puts either. Taking a conservative approach.
