Now that superbowl is approaching, any of you guys sportsbet? Not talking just when you're in Vegas, but regularly through a site or bookie account on 5dimes, betsas, bet1234, bodog. If so, wondering how you guys did this football season? Seems as though this was the season for favorites. And do you make your own picks or follow touts?

Won on Saturdays, gave most of it back Sundays. Rode LSU, Stanford, Oky State, Wisconsin for most of the season. Have a friend who was up almost 200k. For me and the rest of group, we're up slightly. Should've rode our buddy better, but we tried to make too many of our own picks.

Most of the folks on this site have similar demographics as me and my friends, so figured I wasn't the only one on here that sportsbet.

I used to bet on the NBA years ago, using bodog I think.  Once in awhile I'll bet the NBA or NFL in Vegas.  There have been several trips where I've come out ahead by recouping my blackjack losses at the sportsbook.

Was never a big fan of the nba. The spread is too brutal. You take the lakers -8, they're up 10 and with 5 seconds left, the opposing team throws the ball in while the lakers are already walking off the court and some scrub drains a meaningless 3 that kills your play. happened to me one too many times.

It worked for me during the Shaq era.  He was very predictable.  I would watch every game, so I was in tune with which games he would show up for and which ones he would skip mentally.  The spread nearly always favored the Lakers so it was easy to bet against them on the nights when Shaq was going to be lazy, and bet in their favor when I thought he would play hard.

Before my dad moved to Vegas in 2002, I used to have a small online account at sportsbook.com.  Now that he's in Vegas, I just call him up anytime I want some action (I guess he's my bookie in a way).  He is a lot more into sportsbetting than I am and will bet straight games, parlays, moneylines, teasers, etc on football (pro & college), baseball, basketball (pro & college), hockey, boxing, and soccer.  He is semi retired so he has a lot of time to read various papers, listen to sports talk radio, watch the games, and track the stats.  I usually stick to college and pro football, college football, and the nba.  Normally I bet anywhere from $50 to $200 per game but I have been known to make moneyline bets in the few thousand range.  I never bet more than I can afford to lose.  That being said, I'm usually up anywhere between $500 to a few thousand each year....nice spare change for poker money.

And don't forget the VIX.
Meant to say college basketball (I rely on my dad to confirm my thoughts on those games since he tracks the teams so closely).  I make bigger bets when it comes to the VIX than I do sportsbetting.  ;)  The biggest bet I ever made sportsbetting was back in the good old days, I bet $8k moneyline on New England to win straight up at home to win $2k (that was their undefeated season run).  I don't bet every day and usually wait for my spots.

This reminds me... when did the online poker sites close down?

Some ad on EPSN radio always mentions that you can go to a live casino now that online poker is not available so I Wiki'ed it and it seems like all those sites converted to FREE instructional non-gambling poker.

I remember there was some scandal where insiders were able to access the system and make big wins based on being able to see hole cards of other players.

I can't bet on stuff that I don't really have control over (does that remind you of a certain house somewhere?) but I do like to play in those Superbowl Buy-A-Square office pools.

It was in September.  My best friend was heavy into online poker and went through withdrawals when it happened.  He also lost all the money in his account when the Feds seized everything.

If you were disciplined, there was a lot of money to be made in online poker.  A lot of dumb money players got into it after Chris Moneymaker won the World Series.

i did pretty well this year betting the favorites in college football this year, the nfl was closer to 50/50. i dont do college basketball really. in the nba, so far this season im hitting at about a 65-70% clip, but i highly doubt that i will sustain that.

One of my friends has/had about 17k in his account that he'll probably never get back. I play the at c-merce every so often and sometimes hear people talking at the table about knowing someone who had more than 6 figures frozen in those accounts.

Softest games with the most bang (yet I never take my own advice and play those limits) are the 300 nl at hawaiian gardens or the 400 nl at c-merce. Anything lower is too crazy, not worth the time, and anything higher most of the folks at the table are regulars w/ everyone going after the same 2-3 folks.

If you just rode the top 4 - Alabama, LSU, Oklahoma State, Stanford, you would've ended up doing pretty well.

Who you taking for the superbowl? I'm leaning towards the giants. Since week 17, been riding the giants...took them straight up w/o the points against san fran...thank you kyle williams.

I think the norm is that the top teams will cover more often then not.  As for the Superbowl...I'll take a two team 7-point teaser...Giants and the over for a few hundred.  Took the Pats and the Giants on a two team 7-point teaser this past weekend for $500 to win $350 (Pats almost cost me money).

Grrrr... and I had just forgiven him for his knee turnover with that 40-yard return. But... I wasn't mad enough to threaten him on Twitter... man... some fans are just insane.

At least the games were interesting to watch... going to be a good Superbowl this year... I'm rooting for Brady.

I'm sure there were a few die hard niner fans who threatened him, but I'm guessing a majority of those threats were from sports bettors who lost their arse.

And that's why I hate teasing...but guess you only won cause you teased it. Btw, you should just use a site like 5dimes. 7 point teasers are usually -120.

that is pretty much what i did, i took those teams you listed every single time, didnt care what the spread was.  For the superbowl, my brain is telling me the giants, that pass rush is sick right now.  But i will likely take the patriots, right now they are -3 (105), i may buy half a point to make it 2.5 for an extra $10 (115).  The giants beat the pats this year so there is payback on the line as well as payback for the superbowl in 2007. With two weeks ill take Brady and Belicheck.

I don't normally bet a two team 7-point teaser...I like to play either a straight moneyline bet or do a moneyline parlay but I did like the Giants getting 9.5pts.  During the season I'll do a four to eight team 7-year teaser for fun ($25 to $50).  Since my dad lives in Vegas, I prefer him making my bets for me versus doing it online even if the odds online are a little better.

Gigantes baby! Won every bet...heads for the coin toss, ochocinco catches 1 pass, 1st half giants, 2nd half giants, giants to win, giants reverse spread at -2 1/2.

Mr Lin, where you at?

How'd the rest of you gamblers do?

Won about a $100 net.  I have a good strategy for basketball...bet against the Lakers almost every game on the road.  Over the entire season, you'll be up.
