My wife really wants to get a house in Lake Elsinore and I'm a little concerned about buying out there.



We work in Garden Grove and just got married a year ago, so we have no kids.



Our original plans were to save up as much as we can and look into buying next year, but a friend of hers recently purchased a house in Lake Elsinore and now my wife wants one of these cheap single family houses out in Lake Elsinore area.



I told her that prices are still going to continue to go down .... but she disagreed.



I know there are other pros/cons in living out in Riverside County.

Several years ago when Mr. SoCal and I were newlyweds, we didn't have any money and we lived in an old and very decrepit apartment here in Orange County. I had bigger dreams... Beaumont! LOL. (In many ways similar to Lake Elsinore.) We decided to take a "vacation" there for a week. We stayed at a hotel and saw everything there was to see, and way more than I wanted to see, in the first couple days. When it was time to leave, I couldn't wait to return to my little dump back home. That fixed me!
 
We went out there today and met with a realtor just to see some houses ... OMG!! 105 degrees!



I am surprised at the prices of the houses but man I just can't see myself living out there and working in Garden Grove.



We did stop by the South Corona area and saw some really nice houses and neighborhoods, but yeah there was nothing around after that! Dos Lagos up the freeway. Eeeek!

Those are the facts that I need!
 
I grew up in Canyon Lake and went to HS in Lake Elsinore. Leaving that place was a joy, and I hate going back, even for holidays. Don't do it unless you work there.

Oh, one more I forgot...



<a href="http://www4.familywatchdog.us/Default.asp">Family Watchdog</a> - Search the National Sex Offender Registry by location. When you click on a square, you'll get their mug shot too so you can look at your future neighbor.
 
Oh, and don't forgot to Google Map your drive and show traffic. You can adjust the time to match your commute. I think yellow means average of under 30 MPH. RED is under 15 MPH. Black and Red = stop and go but mostly stopped.

I would personally rule that out due to the length of the commute alone, ignoring weather and other factors. Mapquest gives driving time as 55 minutes-but that's without traffic. Real world times of up to two hours each way probably isn't unreasonable. At the very least, drive the commute once both ways during rush hour to check it out in the real world.
 
Yeah that's what has me saying "NO" the most is that Drive!



I mean I was thinking of maybe compromising with Corona ... but still that 91 is horrible!



Yeah the houses are BIG ... the prices are LOW ... but that drive is something else!



Hahah the out electric bill will probably offset the cheaper mortgage in the summer months! I've heard of $500 utility bills in months like this.
