Since you all were so great with the TV questions... got another one for you!

What are your thoughts regarding virus software & personal firewalls...? Norton? McAfee?

How about spyware protection?

Norton has a product that does it all. I use it, and I run AdAware weekly.

I stay away from Norton and McAfee because they seem like resource hogs to me. For firewalls, I simply use the one built into Windows XP SP2. For antivirus, I use the free version of Avast. I'm not currently using any antispyware, but on my parent's computers I've installed the Windows Defender product from Microsoft which is free if you have a legit copy of Windows XP.

I too try to run AdAware on the pc that I have. I don't run anything on my mac.

Norton has become basically unusable. As zovall said it's a complete resource hog.

My favorite AV client (the one I'm deploying and supporting at work so I stand by it) is NOD32: www.eset.com/products/index.phphttp://www.eset.com/products/index.php

It's extremely lightweight and effective, and it scans your system real-time.

For spyware, the free Ad-Aware is adequate. Just make sure to run updates and scan once every few weeks.

Zovall, I'm trying Avast just for the halibut. I have access to McAfee's corporate version but I'll see how I like this. I'm impressed that it's free.
