Signs of Consumerism gone wild

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I got this link via e-mail as a result of my wife signing me up for the Sak's e-mail list. I found it amazing as to what they were offering and that people probably bought these outrageous items for their kids.

I like the $550 Porsche myself.

NPR is also running a great series about consumerism in the U.S.

I thought the topic was relevant to show how we got into this mess in the first place.

Humerous consumerism story:

I have more kids than average, so get a lot of use out of hand me down clothes. Which now have holes and/or have been patched by me. I wondered if that made them stand out in the OC fashion crowd, so I asked them about it. They said the other kids think they're kind of cool because it's stylish to buy pants with holes and/or patches. Having a handmade patch over only one knee (instead of both) confuses the OC fashionistas though.
