damn - punked again by IHO.  didnt even realize it was april fools day.  But i wasnt kidding bout my 12 ft wall of storage being installed this week!

You're going to love it, Qwerty. The guy we bought our house from was a garage-type person, I guess. He had overhead storage racks PLUS a long wall of cabinets (and bench, etc.) installed in ours. I didn't really give it too much thought when looking at the house but I'd have to say we do get a lot of use out of them. Random people always comment on the cabinets when our door is up (I don't get why. Must be a guy thing. Weird, huh.)
Can you email a picture of the cabinets?  I'm curious what they look like.  I'm trying to figure out if I want to only put cabinets in the back of the garage or include someone on one side.  I need a spot for my random stuff and car parts to sit in.

yeah i cant wait to get it. im not very handy, although i did just install some shelving in storage room underneath the stairs to make it a walk in pantry, so i dont have a bunch of tools or anything like that, just the basics. but it makes sure the garage stays nice and clean over time.  i hate not having a clean/organized garage.

i would put them in the middle wall of the garage, opposite the garage door, if possible that way you have plenty of clearance to open the car door.

a cheaper route than going with a garage company is go to home depot, pick out the cabinets you want and have someone like this assemble them. they pick them up for you from the store and they will assemble them for you in your garage for a very fair price. i hate putting $hit together so the guy below will be my new best friend. the garage setup we were looking at was going to cost us $2,300 but by going to home depot and having this guy assemble them it will cost us $1K and save us $1,300.

So how did it work out? It's an interesting service he offers.

it looks just like this, but without the little feet, ours are on the floor - this picture is actually four units together, ours is only three, the pic is from the home depot site, one person who wrote a review put it up.

before you attach them to the wall, they dont feel terribly sturdy, but once you attach them to the wall, very sturdy.  if you dont want to spend to much with a professional garage company i would definitely recommend the home depot/ocassembly route.  very professional put down moving pads and all to rest the cabinets while they built them so they didnt get scratched.

the assembly/install was 260 for two people for about 4 hours, so came out to about 32.5/hour per person.  pretty fair if you ask me.

Nice.

I been thinking of buying a portable basketball hoop but all the reviews say that they are so hard to build and can take 4-6 hours depending on how many people you have.

That ocassembly guy's site says they put them together for $50-60... SOLD!

Can you still put two cars in the garage and open the doors?

Most Irvine garages can barely fit two cars with enough space to open the doors when both cars are in without cabinets being installed.

we have a three car garage in tustin.  the cabinets were assembled in the two car side, right in front of where the car stops.  i have one of those little stop signs on a pole for my wife that leans back when she hits hit.  from that little stop sign to the cabinets there is about 2 ft and from the back of the car to the garage door there is about another two feet. i park in the single unit garage to the right of the two spaces so she can just pull in without worrying about hitting anything on either side of her car.

That's cute.  :)
My husband has to train me to park, too. I have a little tennis ball on a string dangling from the garage ceiling. I stop when it hits my windshield.  :D #ParkingForWomen
