Jeana Keough fears being humiliated on national TV? Are you serious? Let's see. She posed nude for Playboy. She signs autographs for five bucks a piece. She starts lying as soon as anyone walks in the door. She has exposed herself and her family's most intimate life details. And keeps going back to expose more embarrassments year after year. And she is in a strong financial position from which to negotiate?

Have you ever met Jeana Keough? Have you ever talked with anybody who has been involved in a deal with her? Do you have any idea what her rep is in Coto?

I don't know but this is the first one that showed up when I did the search earlier when I posted the story, I sort of thought it belong in the other category anyway. Can someone combine these threads? They just don't deserve two.

Forgive me because I don't watch TV and have never seen an episode of this show. However, I read the Register and I thought there was a piece this week about this one being the one who everyone liked and the show asking her to sign a contract for another season, but her not signing on to it. Do I have this one confused with another one?

Yup, I've bumped into Warren Buffet a few times while in Omaha... he hangs at a mom and pop steak house out there called Gorats. Now, you think Warren Buffet and steakhouse, and you are getting the wrong picture... imagine a big open room, with a bunch of cheap tables, packed in, and looking like it was built in the 1950's (and hasn't been remodeled or even had their carpet or wallpaper redone). Its also in an older area of town... stuff developed 50-60 years ago, not the fancy new developments on the golf course. That's Gorat's for ya. (excellent steaks though... but a place that belongs more on Diner's Driveins and Dives...)

Warren did an interview in I believe Forbes once where he said Gorat's was his favorite restaurant... that he did the open faced roast beef for lunch, and a prime rib for dinner, and would often go there twice in a day.

If it weren't for the occasional brown noser talking up to introduce themselves to him, you would have no idea you were sitting next to one of the richest men in America. (Either in how he acted, or how they treated him)

I was wondering the same thing...

She's got a potentially interesting story to air on National TV. Even if her home on Shire doesn't get foreclosed on, hinting of her failure to the press while she is negotiating a contract with Bravo only makes her story worth more... seriously they can run some teasers about Jeana imploding this season and "watch and see" and attract new viewers.

As Awgee pointed out, the foreclosure has been known for a while, and not printed by the OC Register. They interviewed her a few weeks ago on the negotiations. Then they interview her this week on the foreclosure. Don't tell me they didn't know before what was up.

Not saying they are, but if I'm Jeana/Bravo, I use this info to my advantage to make for a good final season.

Have you ever been to Jocko's in Nipomo (just north of Santa Maria)?

Nope. Honestly, I have a rough time eating red meat any more. The red meat in California tastes funny to me, even at some of the nicer restaurants. I prefer a very simple slab of meat with very little seasoning (god forbid a cream sauce!) I hate to say it, one of the few places I've found out here where the meat tastes decent is Wood Ranch over near Coto (although Gorat's would put them to shame). I typically have some steaks flown in from the midwest and just do my own, following the K.I.S.S. principal.

If I'm in the Midwest, I don't order sushi. If I'm in California, I don't order a steak. And ya, if I want creole food or fried chicken, I go to Harold and Belle's... not South Orange County :) Eat what the locals do.

Jockos looks like it's straight out of 1950, exactly like the steakhouse you describe in Omaha. If you think Wood Ranch is good, you haven't seen anything 'till you've seen Jockos.

All of thier steaks come from a feeder in Kansas City and are trucked in special for them. I used to buy meat from them before I found a butcher (Tony at Pomona Food Locker) who would order me a hind quarter, dry age it 21 days, and custom butcher it to our (me and the Mrs.) specs. He gets his from Miller, they come out of the midwest.

Pulling up to Jocko's feels like arriving at Bingo Night at the Eagles Hall. It's beige cinder block building and requisite gravel parking lot give it immediate street cred as a long-time fixture in central coast food culture; it's been there for decades, and has the decor and clientele to prove it.

Jocko's has been doing the same thing for generations--grilling meat, Santa Maria style, over red oak and serving it with house-made salsa, toasted/buttered french bread, pinqinto beans (pink beans) and a vinegary salad. It is not trendy, and it has refused to change with the times--not an ounce of balsamic anywhere-- and it reminds you of restaurant food in the '60s & '70s; that is comforting to me.

The steak is very good, not the best I've had, but unique in that it stays true to local tradition, and has a great wood/smokey flavor. The sides are mediocre, but good (again) in a comfort-food sort of way.

Don't go for lunch and expect the dinner menu. What can I say, I'm trying to channel my inner trailer park.

On edit, the comments on Yelp! are spot on. This isn't Morton's or Ruth Chris. The wait is insane. They are that busy. If decor and ambiance are important to you (and I'm assuming you aren't trying to seek out a 1950's roadhouse) you probablly aren't going to like it. In that case, skip Jockos, drive an hour further up 101 to Paso Robles, and eat at my near favorite Bistro Laurent.
 
Had another lovely meal at Bistro Laurent the Sat before last. I couldn't finish my chicken, so Maggie got an extra special treat. Is it any wonder that she refuses to eat plain kibble?
