Proposed cemetery near Great Park and the new Irvine 5th high school

I personally don't understand why anaheim hills was so bad.  But watever.

Is this close enough for Laguna Altura residents to oppose it?

Those guys must have someone on the inside.  Didn't take them too much fighting to be re-zoned to Uni when the 5th HS boundaries first came out.

Has any FS believer ever defined what the necessary distance from a cemetery your house must be so as to not violate your principles?

Someone told me 4 miles.. because 4 is death in Chinese?  I think sometimes they make the rules as it goes.

The street name next to the cemetery should be 164 for "One Road to Death"

I recently asked this question to a Chinese friend who lived in Roland Heights and I guess there is a cemetery in that area.  He mentioned that Chinese buyers will buy any home that doesn't border the cemetery, those are left for whites and hispanics.

I also think there is no rule for this.

So you are Cantonese! 1648

It's only a proposal right now, but there are talks of moving the cemetery closer to where the 5 meets the 405 as a result of a land swap deal with FivePoint. Supposedly the group fighting for the cemetery likes the newly proposed site better than the currently proposed site on Irvine Blvd, so the deal would benefit both parties involved. This seems like a good solution to the problem, and I hope the city council approves it.

Just an update for those who care.. it looks like the land swap proposal got rejected.

Disappointing... There is absolutely no reason why they would reject the proposal.

Is this going to effect prices in nearby communities?

Based on the responses on this thread, there seem to be many people who oppose living next to a cemetery.  Therefore it will likely have some affect on demand and thus prices as well...

I was at the city hall to see the vote. There were 50 people who came up for public comment. 40 were strongly supportive of the swap, including both veterans and residents. This clearly goes to show our councilman don't care about the overwhelming will of the people. Beth Krom and Jeff Lollaway clearly have personal motives and secret deals with deep pocketed special interest to keep the land swap from happening. It couldn't be more obvious.

This is really disappointing.
I have lost faith in our political system.  How can these elected officials who are set in these roles to represent the interest of the public make a call that is clearly opposed to the general consensus?  This was considered a win-win...both sides would have gotten exactly what they wanted!!!
Completely agree with Eatthis that their decision was guided by their own self interest and not the people they represent!!!
