A woman suspected of driving under the influence led police on a pursuit through Newport Beach and Irvine streets, refusing to come out of her car for nearly an hour after the chase ended.
Police on Thursday identified the woman as 50-year-old Diane Beth Griswold of Irvine, who was driving a Ford Escape when officers tried to pull her over Wednesday night.

An officer spotted the black SUV at about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday near Jamboree Road and East Coast Highway. The officer pulled the vehicle over but the woman drove off northbound on Jamboree Road.

Officers followed the vehicle through surface streets in Newport Beach and into Irvine, where the woman came to a stop in front of the entrance to a gated community, Sgt. Steve Burdette of the Newport Beach Police Department.

Though the SUV came to a stop at Archway and Portola Springs, Griswold refused to come out of her car for nearly an hour, Burdette said.

At 1 a.m., officers broke the window of the car and forced the woman out, Burdette said.
Paramedics on the scene treated Griswold before she was taken into custody by police, he said. She was not injured.

Griswold was booked in county jail on suspicion of evading a police officer and possible DUI, Burdette said.
