Pereira House in Laguna Beach

thought some of you architecture buffs here might be interested in hearing this...

my colleague rented a beautiful house on the bluffs in laguna this summer and hosted a dinner party last night. its perched on one the bluffs in crescent bay, facing a perfect sunset over the pacific. dinner and drinks on that deck was something i will always remember. the home turns out to have been the former residence of william pereira and still in the hands of his family. they rent it out for the hefty sum of $25,000/mo.

being a housing nerd and a yr of reading IHB, esp bkshopr's posts, really made me appreciate the significance of being in home of the original planner of the irvine ranch. no one else had heard of him before until i mentioned some of his more famous, distinct pre-fab concrete styled works -- transamerica pyramid, newport ctr. those who were local grads got a kick out of learning pereira designed some of the bldgs on their campuses - geisel library at ucsd, uci, a few bldgs at usc, etc.

That's a fun story acpme. I have found that there are few people people that get as jazzed about housing as I do...and that is to include architecture and design. The fact that you were able to make the connection between Pereira and some of the attendees (school bldgs) was neat...I'm sure they enjoyed it !

What a view !

That's a great story. I'm glad you got to go and have a good time.

It rents for $25K per month, huh? And I bet the heirs are only paying the property tax on a 1973 basis (with the annual 2% adjustment). {Sigh.}
