People ringing doorbell by mistake

Do any other Irvine residents have food/furniture delivery people, ride pickups, or other excuses to ring your doorbell bug you constantly, when you didn't order anything? This happens to me on an almost daily basis. I never open the door, but turn them away via intercom. I'm getting suspicious that these are burglars checking to see if anyone's home. Either that, or one of my neighbors keeps giving out my address by mistake because they're senile or have a thick accent that's hard to understand. Anyone else experience this?

I do get concerned about some shady people pretending to be residents and knocking on doors to check if they are open.  It's known to happen.

On the other hand, thing about Irvine is alot of the houses look the same and have poor identfication (home numbers are on the grass common areas instead of the door).

I always ask them what address they're looking for and they tell me my correct address. Next time, I'm going to ask them the name and phone # of the people who called them out.

Ask if they have the name of the person who placed the order.  Install security camera, home alarm, and reinforce the all entry doors, locks, and windows.  There are various door reinforcement kits on Amazon ("EZ Armor") and security window film (applied to interior side).  You can also ask your friends and neighbors to see if anyone has a large dog that you can borrow for few weeks.

Reinforced locks and windows will only delay home invasion robbers.  You'll need to have contingency plan in place.  See Massad Ayoob's home invasion videos on youtube.

I am so sorry. I listed your address on Backpage.com.
I.e., you're pimping me out? I didn't realize this sort of thing happened in Irvine.

...let's not encourage another discussion on Irvine apartment brothels.

I asked the last delivery person for the name of the customer who ordered the food and it turned out to be my next door neighbor. Now I'm suspecting that they might be writing down the wrong address number due to a thick accent.
