Orange County Great Park

Will the Orange County Great Park transform Irvine into a major metropolitan city in 20-30 years time or even sooner?

surrounded by a *the* major freeway, high density but car-requiring density, and with a jail on one side, what's not to like?

Change "Great" to "So so" and we'll be fine.  So the state can take away Irvine's taxes?  How does that work?  Anyone got Lalloways email?

Wow more than 10,000 new homes to be built there?  Boy, they will have to add several new lanes to the 5 and 405.  The 405 is already bumper to bumper around Irvine.

Agran: O.C. Great Park could take 30 years

In China, I am sure they can build that park in 5 or less years!

What a shame!

I have a better idea... We outsource the work to Chinese laborers (give them 5 year working visas) for a fraction of what it would cost hiring American workers, and finance the park with Chinese sovereign wealth funds. We can pay back the loan to the Chinese by charging for certain park attractions? If we default on the loan, the Chinese can foreclose on the park and build/lease a military base there for the People's Liberation Army (PLA)? The last part was a joke.  :p

America had already done this back in the 1850s by importing Chinese to work in the railroad and gold mining trades. Employers would strip search the Chinamen from stealing gold nuggets. Chinese either swallowed or hid the small nuggets up their butt.

TIC's Donald Bren can donate the $1+ billion to fund the development of the Great Park! Mr. Bren, please step up to the plate?  :)
