That is probably because these are a majority of the houses back east, but you rarely find one around here.
 
Majority of the nice ones maybe. Actually the ones generally considered nice are brick. The worst is the brick/siding mix which is very very common. Especially brick in front and cheap siding on the sides and back of house. Ugh.

In the DC area a lot of tiny little brick boxes like this one

And that little eyesore will run you over 650k in Arlington VA.

Hahahahha... no. Stucco doesn't work very well in places where it rains often and gets cold. There are a some that look like stucco but those are oddities. Frontal garages are common on newer construction but anything past two frontal bays is an abomination to my East Coast sensibilities. It's all a matter of proportion - it should like like a house with a garage and not visa versa. This would be a typical DC area dream home for those that really want new construction:

Not for me though... Note the siding on the side. Hate it. Being out here I love the Spanish style hacienda and carpenter homes. But they wouldn't work in the Mid-Atlantic states I guess.

I'm stop derailing the thread now... Perhaps this deserves its own thread. Dream homes around the country?

In some respects, while driving through Cowan Heights I am reminded of Griffith Park or the Hollywood Hills areas. Or Bel Air.

Crazy price, I like the way Redfin shows that the area is selling between $220-$270 a square foot and these people still list this very ugly house at double the price per sq. ft. Someone should slap a little tag on top of the realtors sign out front that says, "We really DON'T want to sell this house"
 
N. Tustin is turning into a criminal cesspool. Not only have I been to one grow house, but two now. Then I see this listing with its three car garage at $306 a sqft. and think it is a good deal.

But... Oh... No.... I come to find out the NOD has been filed against this douchebag. I think this just proves that N. Tustin really is just Santa Ana... I mean 92705 is SA after all. If you go look at the county records on this douchebag, the abstract judgments and mechanic liens are a mile long. Grow houses, Ponzi schemes... I think it is best for everyone to live in Irvine, even with the icicle guns, prostitution rings, slaves, and Samurai sword yielding grocery bag boys, N. Tustin is really the ghetto and really... truly is Santa Ana. Even the VOC isn't as bad of cesspool as N. Tustin is. Who gives a f*ck about large lots and 3 car garages, when you are surrounded by criminal masterminds. Seriously... everyone should stick to Irvine... gawd only knows what might happen to you if you buy in Santa Ana N. Tustin. Just don't do it... buy in Irvine where you will be safe from the criminals. Have you ever read the orange juice blog? These are the same liberal pinko freaks that have say over N. Tustin/Santa Ana. First of all I would like to set the record straight. North Tustin has never and will never be part of Santa Ana. Two cities, Orange and Tustin, have spheres of influence in this unincorporated community. However many community leaders would like to see these spheres dissolved. The median family income for North Tustin was $131,037 in 2008 compared to $108,206 in Irvine. Every community has its disadvantages, such as Irvine's postage stamp lots compared to North Tustin's lots that average half an acre. North Tustin may have had an influx of nouveau riches as the housing bubble grew but Irvine will always have to deal with headlines such as "Irvine pair guilty in child slave case."

There is so much going on there, I don't even know where to start, but you certainly get points for making your arguments briefly.

As for North Tustin "never and . . . never [being] part of Santa Ana," you may wish to take that up with the US Postal Service, who offers the following:

If you had read for context - or even read to the bottom of the post, you would have understood that the comment that North Tustin really is Santa Ana was said with sarcasm. Moreover, if you spent some time reading the posts in this thread and others, you would have discovered that many people here like N. Tustin (E. Santa Ana?) over Irvine. My biggest quibble with N. Tustin is that with County planning, y'all have had to suffer with a proliferation of McMansions in places where ranch homes used to be and that the McMansions are out of scale (and visually clash) with the rest of the neighborhood. My second biggest quibble is that the residents seem to not be very concerned with the McMansions in their midst, but are up in arms about a proposed retirement community. It looks like my third quibble will be elitism, but I suspect that quality is not new to the neighborhood.

Good luck with LAFCo. I'm sure Orange and Tustin are greedily eyeing the tax base. Will the name requested for the new area be Valhalla? ;)

In any event, welcome to IHB. I would encourage you to read around a bit and get to know the characters. Doing so may help you from unnecessarily adding points to your blood pressure.
