noisy coyotes howling

have any of you guys been hearing a large pack of coyotes howling really loud like hyenas in the middle of the night? i've been hearing it several times the past few weeks
 
My friends live near the Portola Springs elementary school and they hear it nightly. We live on the side of Portola near the toll road and we don't hear it, so it depends on where in Portola.
 
We live in Orchard Hills and it can be unsettling at times. It does sound like a pack of hyenas devouring their prey.
