No maintenance outdoor plant/tree/landscape ideas

I have a patch in my back yard that's 4 feet wide by 10 feet deep. I had the landscapers remove a stump and put down wood chips. Looked great but then bunch of weeds moved in and took over. They grow fast so a pain to cleanup.

So thinking of putting something in there decorative, something low maintenance. There are 3 sprinkler heads in there, I turned them off to minimize weeds but can turn them back on. It's a corner on the side of the house I never go in so I don't even use the space so would just like to make it look good. It gets a few hours of sun a day and then stays shady.

Some ideas I was thinking of :

1) Dwarf palm tree
2) Ornamental grass
3) Lavender (not sure if this will go all over the place eventually)

Leaning towards the palm tree with maybe one of the other plants in the background. I like the idea of lavendar beacuse of the fragrance but not sure if it will go crazy.

Going with a pygmy date tree. They often come in 3's but gonna go with a single one. Another option is a sago palm but it would probably get too wide for that spot.
