1. Did the NFL receive the elevator tape? The commissioner said no. AP reports that the NFL received the tape in April.

2. The prosecuter decided on no jail time for Rice. What's up with that? "If Rice completes an anger management program, charges will be drop and he won't have a record of conviction."

3. The commissioner didn't rule out Rice returning to the NFL.

Hitting a woman is never ok but if you let Leonard little and the guy who was with browns who killed someone while driving high I don't see how u should keep rice out of the league. What does the nfl think happened in the elevator?  He was already suspended for two games with the nfl knowing he knocked her out. Not sure why the video changed his punishment.
 
How bout greg hardy. What he did to his girl formed sounds pretty bad. But no video. Will he get 6 games or a ban like ray rice?
 
I think there multiple issues:
1. The credibility of the commissioner. He said he didn't know about the tape in multiple recent interviews. But the AP report says the NFL received the tape in April.
2. The light sentence by the prosecuter and approved by a judge. People are now looking at that now.
 
My question here is I am confused as to how the video of the actual event changes things?

Back when this came out months ago, didn't Ray Rice admit he hit his wife and knocked her unconscious? So does seeing the actual incident make him "more" guilty?

To me, it's just the social reaction that is increased, and I admit that seeing it makes it more brutal (my issue was how he didn't seem very concerned about her after she went out) but it how does it make his punishment increase?

So, if someone tells you he hit his wife, you feel one way, but when you see him hit his wife, it's another way? That's human nature so the issue here is really he wasn't punished enough to begin with.

You are correct, people already knew Rice hit his wife. (I think of a domestic dispute when a guy and a lady fights with shouting) However, people's perception changed when they saw the video because he knocked her out cold (TKO) and dragged her body from the elevator.
 
Technically, Ray Rice could be reinstated today.

Article 46, section 4 of the NFL league rules (I feel like Irvinecommuter) prevents them from punishing a player more than once for the same incident... or even adding additional punishment.

As I said, months ago, the NFL gave Rice a 2-game suspension for punching his then fiancee and knocking her unconscious. The video just verifies that.

Slippery slope.

Not that it really matters, however, I've read that it wasn't the blow which knocked her out but, rather, her hitting her head on the rail.
 
It's never right to knock someone out like that - video or no video. Yes people get angry, but out of control is out of line. Rice should have been kicked out much earlier as the NFL clearly knew what happened well before this video came to light. The rest of the bums still actively playing with similar raps should be given the boot as well.. 

That said.... What kind of outrage/uproar would we be seeing if his wife cold cocked, then dragged him out of the elevator? It's not unrealistic to see this occur. Would we hear as much in the news about spousal abuse and domestic violence if the reverse happened? If not, why not?
